Richard Manual Jauron, aka Dick Jauron, a coach and former NFL player, and Swampscott High School star athlete, passed away at 74, leaving his family and loved ones devastated.
The former Green Bay Packers defensive backs coach Richard Jauron died early Saturday morning on February 8, 2025, following a brief battle with cancer.
According to his daughter, Kacy Elizabeth, Richard was diagnosed with brain cancer that spread to other parts of his body.
Kacy Rogers took to her social media to announce the demise of her father, Richard, aka Dick Jauron.
She wrote,
“We are so incredibly devastated to share the news that my dad has passed away. The past week has been one awful nightmare after another. What we thought was some early signs of memory issues turned quickly into cancer in his brain, specifically a tumor that was causing some very out of character behavior.”
Kacy further added that the doctors did a scan of his body and, unfortunately, found cancer in his lungs, liver, and bones.
Similarly, she stated that Richard had no idea what was going on, nor was he in any pain, and appreciated her mom, Gail’s nursing staff, for caring for Richard.
Kacy concluded by saying that the Jauron family will take some time to grieve and come to terms with this loss.
Richard was a star athlete at Swampscott High School, where he captained the football, basketball, and baseball teams and was named a high school All-America.
Moreover, he continued his passion for football while attending Yale, where he won the Bushnell Cup as the Ivy League’s best football player, the Bulger Lowe Award as the most outstanding college football player in New England, and was named a first-team college All-America.
He began his professional career with the Detroit Lions, where he played from 1973 to 1977 before signing with the Bengals in 1978.
As a defensive back and head coach of several renowned NFL organizations, including the Buffalo Bills, Packers, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, and Eagles, he won several honorable titles.
Richard Jauron Is Survived By His Longtime Wife, Gail Johnson Jauron, Daughter Kacy, And Granddaughters
Richard Jauron was not just an exceptional coach and player but also a great husband to wife Gail, father to Kacy Elizabeth Jauron Rogers, and an amazing grandfather to his two granddaughters, Lyla and Chloe.
Dick was one of the most humble and supportive people; he cared for and supported his wife, Gail, during her long period of disability.
In addition to Kacy Elizabeth, Richard was a great father to his late daughter, Amelia Katherine Jauron.
Richard was predeceased by his daughter, Amelia Katherine Jauron Cearns, who passed away on December 28, 2014, at the age of 28 in Buford, Georgia.
Amy was born on October 3, 1986, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to the late Richard and his wife, Gail Jauron. She earned her bachelor of science in communications from Marquette University.
She tied the knot with Brian Cearns on July 7, 2012, in Braselton, Georgia, and passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
While very little information is available about his wife, Gail Johnson, as she prefers to live a low-key lifestyle, their daughter, Kacy Elizabeth, is an exceptional entrepreneur.
Based in Swampscott, Massachusetts, Kacy is the owner of Coastal Collective, a gift shop, and a founder of The Jauron Family Foundations, a non-profit organization.
Likewise, she is the former director of Special Events at Northeast Arc and events and communications at Good Karma Broadcasting.
In addition to his daughter, wife, and granddaughter, Richard is survived by his son-in-law, Kevin Rogers; siblings, Robert Elvin Jauron and his wife, Sally, Susan Kay Jauron, Maine; and Michael Willian Jauron and his wife, Kathleen.
