On March 26, 2025, tragedy struck Wagoner County, Oklahoma, when a devastating multi-vehicle crash claimed the lives of two individuals and left another fighting for survival.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on the Muskogee Turnpike near Porter.

Among the victims was Baylor Butler, a beloved 31-year-old former Checotah High School basketball player, whose untimely death has left his family, friends, and community in deep mourning.

Baylor Butler, born on March 15, 1994, in Checotah, Oklahoma, to parents Kurt Butler and Deion Miller, was more than just an athlete.

He was a family man, a friend, and a source of joy to those who knew him.

According to the highway patrol’s report, the collision involved a Ford Fusion and a Ford F-450.

Baylor and 26-year-old Stevie Carter of Gore, both passengers in the Fusion, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was rushed to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition, leaving the community praying for recovery.

Baylor’s Athletic Legacy Began In Checotah, Where He Made A Name For Himself As A Standout Multi-Sport Athlete

At Checotah High School, he shone as a 6’4” forward on the varsity basketball team, wearing the #24 jersey under head coach Anthony Porter during the 2009-2010 season.

He graduated in 2012, leaving behind memories of his skill and determination on the court.

However, basketball wasn’t his only passion.

Baylor also played baseball for the Checotah Wildcats in 2006 and later joined the OK Rippers, a team based in Eufaula, from 2007 to 2008.

On the football field, he was just as fierce, competing alongside friends who would later remember him as a loyal teammate.

Beyond school sports, Baylor shared a unique bond with his father, participating in rejoneo, a traditional horseback bullfighting event showcasing his adventurous spirit.

While Baylor’s athletic achievements were impressive, his true legacy lies in the love he poured into his family.

He was married to Brooke Butler.

Baylor was a proud father to two children: his son, Creed, and a daughter born just months ago in November 2024.

The couple welcomed their newest addition with joy, completing their little family.

Friends and loved ones recall how Baylor’s face lit up when he spoke about his kids; he was a dad who cherished every moment with them.

That love now reflects through the heartbreaking words of his wife, Brooke, whose loss has devastated him.

In a series of emotional Facebook posts, she poured out her grief, sharing photos of Baylor with their children.

“If you knew Creed you knew how his “dada” was absolutely everything to him… my poor baby 💔 my heart is shattered into a millon pieces
& little baby Pace will always know how good of a daddy he had
Everytime i look at our sweet babies, i just see you. I love you forever Baylor Butler

A GoFundMe page was created to cover funeral expenses and support Baylor’s young family, setting a goal of $18,000.

Currently, generous donors have raised $17,190, proof of how deeply Baylor was loved. His death has left a void, but the outpouring of support shows his mark on many lives.

Baylor Butler’s story is one of talent, love, and connection. From his days as a Checotah High School athlete to his role as a devoted husband and father, he lived with passion and purpose.

His sudden passing in this tragic car accident has left his family heartbroken, but the memories he created with his wife, his children, and his friends will live on.

Brooke beautifully said, “Baylor was loved by so many & I hope this can give some peace to your heart, like it did mine.

Though his time was cut short, Baylor’s light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew him.
