Four-time state champion at Wooster High and NCAA All-American Brianne McGown’s husband, Brandon, takes great pride in her new role at Damonte Ranch High School.

On Wednesday in September 2025, Damonte Ranch High School announced Brianne McGowan-Durfee as their new head softball coach.

Athletic director Jeff Thiede shared the news, calling her the perfect fit to lead the Mustangs back to success.

Brianne, fresh from her assistant coaching days at the University of Nevada, Reno, steps in after the team’s 10-17 season last year.

Although her husband, Brandon, hasn’t shared words on this matter, he must be extremely proud of her role.

Unlike Brianne’s professional life, which is like an open book, her personal life remains private.

Brandon and Brianne have been married for several years and live together in Reno, Nevada. They have two children, Connor and Kaitlyn, who are now in middle school.

By 2011, the couple already had their son Connor, whereas their daughter, Kaitlyn, was born in 2013.

The family enjoys supporting the kids in their own sports activities. Brianne has mentioned in interviews that watching her children play brings her great joy.

In fact, their son, Connor, is listed on the freshman football roster of Damonte Ranch High School.

Brianne McGown-Durfee Started Her Coaching Career in 2008 After Four Years of Playing Career!

Brianne McGowan-Durfee started her path in sports early, growing up in Reno.

At Wooster High School, she became a star pitcher on the softball team. She helped her school win four consecutive state championships.

Her records include 13 perfect games, which remain the state record, and 1,318 strikeouts, a mark that still stands today.

Likewise, she also played basketball and volleyball, earning honors like Gatorade National Player of the Year in softball.

After high school, Brianne went to Oregon State University to play college softball from 2004 to 2007. There, she set many school records, such as 100 career wins and 852 strikeouts.

She was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year and earned All-American status twice. Her team reached the Women’s College World Series in 2006.

Brianne also played for Team USA, winning a gold medal at the 2007 World University Games.

Once her playing days ended, Brianne turned to coaching. She began as an assistant at Oregon State in 2008, then moved to Boise State for two years, where she worked mainly with pitchers.

Later, she coached with local travel teams, such as the Nevada Comets, helping young players improve and reach the college level.

From 2017 to 2021, she served as an assistant coach at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Beyond coaching, Brianne works as the Northern Nevada Development Director for Special Olympics Nevada.
