Marathon Sports Maine Runner Diane Bell Passed Away In A Tragic Car Vs. Runner Accident In Franklin Street

Diane Bell, a dedicated member of Marathon Sports Maine, passed away in a pedestrian accident on the evening of November 22, 2025, at the age of 75.

While crossing the intersection of Franklin Street and Marginal Way with a group of runners, Diane was struck by a vehicle driven by a 48-year-old man.

According to police reports, the group had crossed against the traffic signal at the time of the incident.

Diane was rushed to Maine Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

As of the latest report, the driver who struck Diane has not been charged.

The Marathon Community is Mourning the Loss of Beloved Member Diane Bell!

Diane Bell, a Portland resident, was a beloved runner, volunteer, and community member.

She worked at Maine Medical Center in the 1990s, where colleagues recall her humor and warmth that made even busy days feel lighter.

Though she was not a professional marathon runner, she was a dedicated distance runner.

In her running life, she was a familiar face at state and regional races, competing, volunteering, and cheering others on.

Within her running community, she was known for showing up at long-distance events, such as the Winter Warrior evenings.

She is remembered not only for her athletic accomplishments but also for her laughter, kindness, and positivity.

Diane Bell’s passing has left a void in the hearts of her extended family, friends, and the whole running community.

One of her friends from MMC shared sadness, recalling meeting her back in the 1990s. She describes how Diana’s humor made working together fun, further saying:

When I heard the news this morning my heart sank, this can’t be true, not Diane!! This world definitely lost a very special lady. Give Reed a big hug and make sure to tell him “I finally got marred”
