The Spring Valley, Minnesota, community is mourning the loss of Nathaniel Noé Drees, a 16 year old Kingsland High School student who died following a tragic ATV accident on August 15, 2026.
Nathaniel passed away on August 16, according to his obituary. He was born August 17, 2009, to Joe and Santi Drees of Spring Valley. His death came just one day before what would have been his 17th birthday.
Nathaniel Drees Remembered by Family and Friends
Nathaniel was preparing to enter his senior year at Kingsland High School. He was involved in football and track and also enjoyed music and singing. During the summer, he worked part time at Ody’s Country Meats.
His family remembered him as a hardworking and determined teenager who enjoyed learning, exploring and spending time with the people closest to him. His interests included fishing, boating, golfing, drawing, playing piano, gaming and spending time with friends and family.
Nathaniel also shared a particularly close bond with his brother Bailey, whom his family described as his best friend.
A community vigil was held at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley on August 17, Nathaniel’s birthday. According to KAAL TV, the gathering drew a large crowd, with many people filling the church and surrounding areas to honor his life.
Family members, teachers and members of the Kingsland community spoke about Nathaniel and the happiness he brought to those around him. Kingsland High School football coach Matt Kolling also spoke during the service, telling the team they would continue working to finish what they had started with Nathaniel.
The gathering included a birthday tribute, with attendees singing in his honor and sharing his favorite drink, chocolate milk.
Funeral Services Planned in Spring Valley
Nathaniel is survived by his parents, Joe and Santi, siblings Erin, Bailey and Aleigha, grandparents, a great grandparent, extended family members and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 21, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 20, at the church, with additional visitation one hour before Friday’s service.
The Spring Valley community continues to remember Nathaniel for his kindness, humor, smile, love of family and the joy he shared with others.
