On February 1, 2025, a tragic accident took the life of Adam Meissner, a 10-year-old student at River Ridge Academy.

Adam was riding his bike near the Woodbridge Apartments on Pebble Beach Cove when he was struck by a 2016 Ram Pickup Truck at approximately 3 p.m.

Despite the immediate response from authorities, he lost his life at the scene of the accident.

The incident is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Trooper Nick Pye said the driver did not flee the scene after the accident, and there have been no arrests so far.

Additionally, Beaufort County Coroner Debbi Youmans, who identified Adam, said an autopsy is pending on Feb 2 or Feb 4.

Adam was a bright and spirited boy who was always excited about everything in life, and that brightness overflowed into the lives of people around him.

On the family’s behalf, his aunt, Tiffany Washington, has started a GoFundMe; the goal is $50,000, which has already raised more than $25,000.

She described him as “smart, funny, energetic and athletic” in her message, underlined his vivid personality, and wrote:

‘Adam was a shining light in the lives of all who knew him—smart, funny, energetic, and athletic. His vibrant personality touched the hearts of his classmates, teachers, friends, and family, leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever.”

In response to this devastating loss, River Ridge Academy Principal Brian R. Ryman emailed parents on February 2 to address the situation.

He shared with them the sadness of Adam’s death and gave some advice on how to approach the topic with children and said:

“The River Ridge Academy family is saddened to learn of the passing of Adam Meissner, one of our students. Adam will be remebered as smart, funny, energetic and athletic.”
