Christian McCauley, a 20-year-old Oklahoma Wesleyan University student athlete, passed away unexpectedly on September 28, 2025.

Bartlesville Police Department officers found him unresponsive in the 4700 block of State Street and transported him to a local hospital.

The Oklahoma Wesleyan University community mourns the sudden loss of Christian McCauley, a freshman soccer player.

The Bartlesville Police Department responded to a medical emergency and transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities have stated there is no initial indication of foul play, and an investigation is ongoing. The medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.

While police have not officially released his name, the university and local soccer community have identified the student as Christian McCauley, a goalkeeper on the OKWU Eagles men’s soccer team from Broken Arrow.

The news has prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes from teammates, friends, and the entire Bartlesville community.

Today, we are deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of an OKWU student.
We cling to the hope of Psalm 34:18, ‘The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.’ Earlier today, our community gathered in chapel for a special prayer service to lift up the family, friends, and teammates.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with them as we continue to grieve together.

Christian McCauley was a beloved son, friend, teammate, and a remarkable young man whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of countless people.

His untimely passing left a legacy of joy, camaraderie, and passion that will never be forgotten.

Christian was known as the heart of his community.

His coaches remember him as a glue guy who binds a team together, and his value was immeasurable for those who understand team dynamics.

He possessed a unique ability to move between any group, effortlessly creating laughter, joy, and a powerful sense of togetherness wherever he went.

His spirit, his laughter, and his profound love for the game and the people around him will forever be cherished by all who knew him.

In honor of his life, students, faculty, and staff gathered for a special prayer service in the university chapel on September 29, 2025, to support McCauley’s family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.

Chris was a passionate and dedicated athlete who also played for Bartlesville Buffaloes FC, a local semi-professional soccer club.

The club shared its own heartfelt tribute online, joining a chorus of grief and remembrance from the entire Bartlesville soccer community.

We are heartbroken to share about the passing of our teammate and friend, Christian McCauley.
His spirit, laughter, and love for the game and those around him will forever be remembered.
