North Carolina coach Kevin Darden took to his Facebook to share a wild story about a day that started with excitement but ended in frustration when he hit a bear on I-40 just hours after buying his dream Chevy Silverado Z71.
Kevin started his Facebook post with gratitude, writing:
I’m reminded every day how fortunate I am to have good friends and family in my life. Yesterday was a rough day for me

Kevin then wrote that he had started out the day in a sound manner like any other normal day; however, it quickly ended with frustration.
Kevin had been searching for months for the perfect truck. He wanted something reliable, tough, and within his budget.
After his work, Kevin finally bought his dream truck, a Chevy Silverado Z71 LTZ. It fit his budget and had all the features he wanted after months of searching.
He signed the papers, got the keys, and drove off the lot feeling on top of the world. Kevin expressed his happiness, writing:
I was super pumped to be able to sign the papers and hold the keys for it.

Kevin then drove to basketball practice, where he helps coach. After the practice, he left and headed home.
He was driving home on I-40 after coaching basketball practice. He was enjoying the new truck, playing music, and checking out its features.
Kevin was having a wonderful day. However, just three hours later, his joyride turned into a nightmare.
Out of nowhere, a black bear darted across the highway. Before he could react, he hit it head-on. The crash left his brand-new truck damaged, and Kevin was in a state of shock.
He recalled the incident, writing:
Enjoying some tunes and checking out all the features in my new truck. In an instant, a black bear ran across the highway and I hit it dead on. My new truck which I had owned for 3 hours was now broken.

“Disbelief” was the only word he could think of at the moment, for it was too quick to process.
On top of that, his family had been through a big car accident just a year earlier.
Kevin sat on the side of the road, a mix of emotions coursing through him as he couldn’t believe his bad luck. He reminisced about the moment, writing:
Frustrated, sad, angry, shocked were just a few of the emotions I was feeling. I sat there for a minute trying to figure out why me?

But soon, help arrived, and his best friend, Shaun McMahon, pulled up to check on him, and a state trooper and his mother, Amy Hales Diggs, weren’t far behind.
They stayed with him as he filed an insurance claim and watched a tow truck haul away his new Silverado.
He felt his heart sink as he saw his new Silverado disappear in his rearview mirror.
When Kevin got home, he saw his wife and daughter sleeping, and it put everything into perspective. He realized that no truck, no matter how perfect, could compare to the love and support of his family and friends.
Despite the wrecked truck, he felt grateful for the people who were always there for him. He expressed his gratitude, writing:
I’m just thankful for friends like Shaun Mcmahon and family like Amy Hales Diggs who are always there for me and there to help whenever I need them. Feeling blessed today!
