Bob Maggs, All Big Ten Center for Ohio State University, passed away at 61 on October 24, 2025. He had won all-Ohio honors at Cardinal Mooney High twice.

His pride in his own son, Mason, a QB on the Ohio State team, was inspiring.

Bob Maggs was a force on the football field, establishing himself as one of the top offensive linemen in college football during his time at Ohio State.

As an All-Big Ten center, he was named an honorable mention All-American in 1985 and was considered an excellent candidate to win full All-America honors in 1986.

Coaches believed he was poised to be the Buckeyes’ top offensive lineman, a versatile player who could excel at any position on the line.

His athletic talent was evident long before college. He was a Parade All-American and a two-time all-Ohio selection at Cardinal Mooney High School.

Moreover, his teams achieved an incredible 22-1 record, winning a state championship in 1981.

Decades later, Maggs remains a dedicated Buckeye. He was recently spotted tailgating at the 2024 Big Ten Championship reunion and the National Championship game.

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend Bob Maggs, an extraordinary person and accomplished football player, both at Ohio State University and Youngstown Mooney HS. I invite you to join me in extending thoughts and prayers to his loved ones and friends. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
