Alaina Peacock, the head coach of the girls’ varsity basketball team at Alma Bryant High School in Alabama, where she also teaches physical education, has built a strong reputation in the sport.

She previously served as president of the Saraland City Basketball League for 10 years and worked as a kindergarten teacher and middle school basketball coach at Saraland Elementary School.

About four years ago, Alaina and her family relocated from Saraland to join Alma Bryant, where she’s led the Hurricanes’ program with passion and dedication.

By her side through much of this journey has been her husband, John Peacock, a 42-year-old self-employed contractor known for his skill, agility, and hands-on work ethic.

Alaina has described him as one of the most agile men she’s ever met.

Alma Bryant athletic director Bart Sessions recalled watching John fearlessly paint the top of the Hurricane fieldhouse from an extended ladder and tackle the press box using a lift, tasks that showcased his confidence at heights.

John also served as Alaina’s assistant coach, sharing her love for the game and helping shape the team.

Together, Alaina and John have been married for 10 years and are proud parents to two sons: their older son, J.C., who is currently 17, and their younger son, Easton, who is 5.

The couple had been especially excited about this season’s team, a senior-led group featuring high-scoring twins Madi-Marie and Mari-Margret Grayson, with real potential for a deep postseason run.

Tragically, on November 10, 2025, just one game into the Hurricanes’ season, everything changed in an instant.

While working at a job site installing a light fixture, John fell backward off a 4-foot ladder.

His foot got caught, causing him to go straight back and strike the left side of his head on the ground.

Witnesses and reports described it as effectively a 10-foot fall due to the impact, though the ladder itself was only 4 feet high.

The accident resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury. John immediately suffered a seizure, and he was airlifted by helicopter to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola for urgent care.

In those first critical days, Alaina stayed by his side as he fought for his life.

He underwent brain surgery to reduce swelling, and the family faced an incredibly tough road ahead with ongoing complications from the injury.

Despite the heartbreak, Alaina remained determined to shield her husband from negativity and keep hope alive.

She leaned on her faith, later sharing that she “didn’t doubt God” throughout the ordeal.

The Alma Bryant girls’ basketball team, meanwhile, had to push forward amid the crisis, playing games while their coach navigated this personal nightmare.

The community rallied around the Peacocks with prayers, support, and even a tribute video from fellow coaches and teams.

As of early 2026, John continues his recovery at Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville, Florida.

The injury has shifted the family’s dynamics significantly. Alaina now supports them on her teacher’s salary alone, while covering expenses not fully handled by insurance.

The road to healing remains long, but the outpouring of love from their community, players, and beyond has been a source of strength.

Alaina’s story shows not only her skill as a coach but also her strength as a wife, mother, and leader during incredibly difficult times.

The Peacock family continues to inspire those around them with their perseverance and faith.
