Jayla, a 14-year-old freshman at Anclote High School, has always been a standout student and athlete.
She has been a straight-A honor roll student since kindergarten. She has spent the past eight years excelling in academics and athletics at private schools.
Jayla is particularly passionate about basketball, dedicating countless hours to practice and skill development.
Her coaches often praise her hustle, discipline, and leadership on the court.
Despite being new to the public school system, Jayla quickly adapted and aimed to continue her academic and athletic growth in Pasco County.
Mother Worried About Her Daughter Being Mistreated at Anclote High School by an Adult, with Gun Threats and Verbal Bullying!
After the transition to Anclote High School, Jayla’s life took a troubling turn in late September 2025.
According to her mother, a verbal altercation between Jayla and a group of girls on September 22 escalated over several days.
Initially, the school’s coach took a step to address the issue, which was reportedly resolved at the time.
But on September 24, Jayla received threatening messages from the boyfriend of one of the girls involved, claiming he would “see when this 9mm gets to work.”
Jayla reported the threat to school staff, who were aware but did not inform her mother or take immediate action, leaving her feeling unsafe and unprotected.
Things turned out to be more chaotic when, on October 10, Jayla was confronted on campus by the mother of one of the girls involved.
All the staff members from the high school and bus circle watched an adult verbally assaulting Jayla, using profanity and threatening language.
Despite the presence of school staff, the adult was allowed to leave without consequence, highlighting carelessness in school safety protocols.
On October 16, 2025, Jayla’s mother met with Anclote High staff and the SRO to review video footage showing an adult verbally attacking Jayla in the bus circle.
The adult had waited in her car before confronting Jayla and invading her personal space. The school explained that the gate was open due to late buses.
The SRO handled the investigation, and the adult was trespassed from campus; however, she can still drop off and pick up her child.
Following the incident, Jayla’s mother called for stronger security, accountability, and awareness to protect students from threats and unsafe situations.
Furthermore, Jayla’s mother, Taiga Shanique, has also requested that FOX 13 News – Tampa Bay share this story to raise awareness, but the media has not yet responded.
