The Andover High School community is reeling from the heartbreaking loss of Immanuel Maikori, a beloved student-athlete whose light, both on and off the basketball court, left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Immanuel tragically passed away recently, prompting an outpouring of grief, support, and remembrance from friends, coaches, and loved ones.

Known for his dedication to basketball, charismatic presence, and genuine kindness, Immanuel’s untimely passing has shaken those who knew him.

His coaches, teammates, and family friends are rallying around the Maikori family to help ease the pain of this unimaginable loss.

Immanuel Maikori Was A Remarkable Young Man

Immanuel Maikori was born with a heart defect that reduced oxygen flow to the body, but he got better after surgery.

His parents, Kendra and Ishaku Maikori, did everything they could to save him, and it ultimately became a powerful story.

In fact, in 2011, to honor his recovery and to support the American Heart Association, many walked (the annual Start Heart Walk), including Immanuel’s brothers, Isaiah and Isaac.

A former coach shared an emotional tribute:

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Immanuel, a remarkable young man who touched the lives of many with his great spirit and love for basketball. As one of his former coaches, I had the privilege of witnessing his dedication and passion on the court. Immanuel grew up alongside my son, and they shared many wonderful moments playing basketball together.”

The coach encouraged the community to support the Maikori family through a GoFundMe campaign established to help cover funeral expenses and other immediate needs.

Expressions of sorrow and love have poured in from across the Andover community. One family friend shared:

“There are no words. This beautiful family has endured an enormous loss. Please help if you can.”

Another added:

“Our hearts are breaking for and with the Maikori Family. Friends are the family we choose and the Maikori’s are part of my family. This is an unimaginable loss.”

Many have highlighted the profound impact Immanuel had on others, describing him as someone who made people feel seen, valued, and loved.

Immanuel is being remembered as vibrant, selfless, and full of life. The GoFundMe campaign describes him as:

“Young, vibrant, and full of a zest for life, the kind of spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone who met him. Immanuel had a rare gift of making people feel seen and valued. He led with love, never hesitating to put others before himself, and carried a light that made every space warmer.”

The fundraiser has already raised more than $17,000 of its $20,000 goal, proof of the immense love and support surrounding the Maikori family.

The GoFundMe states that all donations will go toward funeral costs and supporting the family as they navigate this devastating chapter.

Community members have also compiled a list of other ways to assist the family during this period of mourning.

“Thank you for your love, your prayers, and your generosity. Immanuel touched many lives in his time here, and his physical presence will be forever missed.”

To support the Maikori family, visit the GoFundMe page titled “Support for Immanuel’s Family” and consider making a donation or sharing the campaign.

Rest in peace, Immanuel!
