At that time, he also held the distinction of being the youngest Grandmaster in the world.
Notably, Giri holds the record as the youngest Grandmaster in the chess history of both the Soviet Union/Russia and the Netherlands.
Throughout his career, he has clinched the Dutch championship title five times and emerged victorious in the Corus Chess B Group in 2010.

Sopiko Guramishvili is a Dutch chess player recognized as both an International Master and Woman Grandmaster.
For a significant portion of her career, she represented Georgia in various chess competitions.
During her youth, she achieved notable success, securing the title of under-16 girls’ World Youth Champion and becoming the under-18 girls’ Georgian national champion.
With a peak FIDE rating of 2441, she reached a remarkable ranking of No. 42 among women chess players worldwide.
Guramishvili’s journey in chess commenced at the age of five, and she consistently qualified for and participated in the World Youth Chess Championships from the age of ten onwards.
In 2003, she clinched a silver medal in the under-12 girls’ division; in 2006, she secured a gold medal in the under-16 girls’ division.
Her debut in the Georgian Women’s Chess Championship occurred at the age of 17, with her most impressive performance taking place in 2009 when she attained a Women Grandmaster (WGM) norm.
Guramishvili was granted the WGM title in 2009 at the age of 18 and achieved the title of International Master (IM) in 2012 at the age of 21.
Notably, she earned her final IM norm during the 2011 Nakhchivan Open, where she defeated Sergey Fedorchuk, a Ukrainian Grandmaster with a rating of 2662.
Sopiko consistently demonstrated her prowess at the European Individual Women’s Chess Championship, earning a double IM norm in 2010.
Her impressive performances in 2013 and 2015 also led to her qualification for the Women’s World Chess Championship 64-player knockout tournament on two occasions.

Anish and Sopiko met each other at a tournament in 2012 and quickly formed a bond and fell in love.
After years of dating, the couple were married on 18 July 2015.
It was a beautiful ceremony, bringing many friends from all over to see the two united.
Now, the couple are parents to three kids, two sons and a daughter.
Their boys, Danny was born on October 3, 2016, and Michael was born on June 8, 2021.
