Mats Zuccarello’s parents, Anita Zuccarello and Glenn Aasen, raised him in Norway. He has Italian roots from his mother’s side.
Born and raised in Oslo, Norway, Mats Zuccarello was always a momma’s boy. The former New York Rangers right winger was bound to become a hockey star from a young age.
The 37-year-old never imagined he would make it to the NHL. He thought the most he would reach was the Swedish League, but destiny had other plans for him.
Mats quickly garnered fame and attention from hockey fans during his second stint with the Rangers in 2013. The magical run lasted six seasons before he was traded to Dallas Stars in 2019.
Currently, at Minnesota Wild, Mats plays alongside Ryan Reaves and Kirill Kaprizov. The two wingers are looking forward to helping their side advance to Round 2 of the playoffs by beating Dallas Stars.
Mats Zuccarello Parents, Anita Zuccarello And Glenn Aasen
Mats Zuccarello’s parents, Anita and Glenn, live in Norway even after Mats’ success.
Working as a hairdresser in Norway, Anita did her best to help her son pursue his career as a professional hockey player.
When Mats was selected as one of the students at the Norwegian College of Elite Sport, Anita decided she would pay off the school fees at any cost.
In an interview with MSG Networks in 2018, the hockey player showed his journey from being a child prodigy to a professional hockey player.
The video displays the strong bond Mats shares with his mother. The mother-son duo also shared the scrapbook Anita had kept, which consisted of newspaper clippings of Mats and his achievements.
Anita had raised Mats, her oldest son, and her two other kids singlehandedly before she tied the knot.
When Mats had felt dejected because of his first stint with the Rangers in 2010, Mats had second thoughts about whether he should go back to them.
The right winger rarely mentions his dad in any of his interviews, which gives the impression that it was Anita who played the most significant role in her son’s upbringing.
And playing at the top level in the top league is a way of paying back his mother.
