Swayde Griffin’s father, Cedric, played as a defensive back for the Texas Longhorns from 2002 to 2005.
Swayde Griffin was awarded the Abacus Athlete of the Week for capturing the Gold medal in the 110 hurdles and 200m dash at the 4A State Track Meet on May 1, 2025.
On May 12, 2025, KVUE posted a video on its official YouTube channel in which Corey, one of the ABC station’s anchors, handed the award to Griffin while practicing in the field.
In the video, Corey asked Griffin about the day while competing in the high jump and other events throughout the day. Griffin answered,
Yeah, it was, it was definitely a nice day for me I, you know, I had the feeling, you know, I was just, I don’t know, it was, it was a great day, you know, everything kind of came together, uh, that day for sure. All my hard work.

Swayde Griffin’s Parents Supported Him In Achieving His Athletic Dreams
Born in 2006, Swayde Griffin, 19, was raised by his father, Cedric Griffin, and his mother, Kelly Griffin, together with his two brothers, Cedric II and Linen.
During one of the interviews, Cedric said he met his wife, Kelly, in college and loved hanging out with each other. He added,
We started hanging out a lot. I didn’t want her going out and she didn’t want me going out. She didn’t want me talking to no one. I didn’t want her talking to no one. We met in college. And we just had a feel. We loved hanging out. We wanted to hang around each other the whole time.
Cedric Griffin

Cedric, 42, is an American former football cornerback who introduced football to his son, Swayde.
Swayde’s father, Cedric, was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
He played college football for the Texas Longhorns, where he was a standout performer on the 2005 national championship team.
On December 4, 2012, Cedric was suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.
The next day, it was confirmed that he tested positive for Adderall. With his suspension over, Griffin was returned to the Redskins’ active roster on January 4, 2013.
On the other hand, Swayde’s mother, Kelly, has avoided the media spotlight, so little information about her personal life is known.
