Armuchee High School Student-Athlete David Clemones Passed Away, Leaving Behind His Parents And Siblings!

Young athlete David Clemones’s parents are mourning the loss of their son while choosing to remain private during this heartbreaking time.

David Clemones was a 15-year-old student-athlete at Armuchee High School in Floyd County, Georgia.

On the evening of September 9, 2025, David was tragically killed in a car accident while riding home from football practice.

He was a passenger in a red Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old teammate.

As the truck attempted a left turn onto Calhoun Road from Georgia Loop 1, it collided with a Dodge Ram driven by a 56-year-old man named Matthew Mathis.

David was rushed to Atrium Health Floyd Hospital but did not survive his injuries.

The teen driver and Mathis were also hospitalized, though their injuries were not life-threatening.

David Clemones’ Parents Are Devastated by the Loss of Their Young Son!

David Clemones was a catcher from Rome, Georgia, set to graduate in 2029.

He played for the Rome Elite team and was known for his strong performance behind the plate.

David batted and threw right-handed, and his team had a record of 4 wins and 1 loss.

Though early in his athletic journey, he showed promise and dedication to the sport.

As David’s parents remained grounded during this heartbreaking time, the community mourns alongside them.

The Armuchee High School offered a heartfelt tribute to David, saying:

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a cherished member of our Armuchee Tribe—a student, classmate, teammate, and friend who touched many lives. There are simply no words for a loss like this. We extend our deepest love and heartfelt condolences to the family during this unimaginable time. Please know that the Tribe stands with them, every step of the way.

At Armuchee High, we are more than just a school community—we are a Tribe. And in moments like these, we lean on one another, lifting each other with strength and compassion.

In the coming days, we will continue to surround our students and staff with care, love, and unwavering support. Counselors and additional support staff are on campus and available for anyone who needs someone to talk to.

We ask that you keep all families involved in this tragic accident in your thoughts and prayers as we grieve together.

One of his teachers expressed heartfelt tribute, writing:

David was the kind of student who lifted others up, On the field and in the classroom, he gave his best. Our hearts go out to his family and friends during this unimaginable loss.

Similarly, his teammates are also gathering to honour his memory. One of his teammates, named Carter Nash, said:

He was always energetic, happy. He was the kind of guy who always had a smile on his face…
