It is quite easy to recognize Arthur Ashe because he was the first male African American Tennis player to win the US Open and Wimbledon singles title. There was no other African American man listed in the No. 1 ranking in the world before he was ranked. Similarly, he was the first person who was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame.
