As Atlanta Braves Slumps Below .500, Fans Wonder: When Does The Hitting Coach Tim Hyers Get Fired?

Braves fans, struck by a disappointing season, are hoping it happens before it’s too late.

The Atlanta Braves are struggling in the 2025 season with a record below .500, leading to fan frustration and scrutiny of hitting coach Tim Hyers.

Social media is buzzing with anger, and the question on everyone’s mind is: When will Tim Hyers get fired?

The team’s offensive struggles have turned a once-potent lineup into one of the league’s weakest, and Hyers, who joined the Braves in October 2024, is taking the heat.

The Braves’ 2025 campaign has been a far cry from their dominant 2023 season, when they led the league in home runs and runs scored.

This year, Atlanta ranks 24th in runs scored, 19th in home runs, and had a dismal sub-.300 team wOBA in June, showing a harsh story for the team.

Key players are struggling mightily.

Second baseman Ozzie Albies is hitting just .223 with a .620 OPS, while center fielder Michael Harris II is mired in a career-worst slump, batting .212 with a .558 OPS and a .238 on-base percentage.

Harris’ chase rate ranks in the bottom two percentiles, a sign he’s swinging at bad pitches and failing to get on base.

Fans are fed up. A tweet from SportsTalkATL.com captured the mood:

“I don’t even care if Tim Hyers is really the problem. The fact that everyone is having the worst year in MLB history with him coaching. You gotta get outta the city and never return”

Many people on X share a similar sentiment. X user FinsUp0110 posted that

The frustration is palpable, and Hyers is the lightning rod.

The Braves Had Big Hopes For His Experience, But Quickly Faced Tough Realities

When the Braves hired Tim Hyers in October 2024, replacing long-time hitting coach Kevin Seitzer, it was seen as a bold move.

Hyers brought an impressive resume, having served as hitting coach for the Texas Rangers (2022-2024), Boston Red Sox (2018-2021), and Los Angeles Dodgers (2017).

His track record included a World Series ring with the Red Sox in 2018 and a reputation for helping hitters refine their approach.

Braves fans were optimistic, with some, like Twitter user @SoundFX09, calling it a “home run hire” at the time.

However, the results haven’t lived up to the hype. The Braves’ offense has gone from bad to worse, with a noticeable drop in slugging and isolated power (24th in ISO).

Not everyone is ready to pin the blame on Hyers.

Cody Fouts, in a reply to SportsTalkATL, argued,

Fouts’ take suggests that the Braves’ roster, devastated by injuries and inconsistency, may no longer have the talent to compete at an elite level.

Injuries to pitchers like Chris Sale and Spencer Strider haven’t helped, forcing the team to rely heavily on an offense that’s failed to deliver.

The Firing Rumor: Fact Or Fiction?

On July 2, 2025, a post on social media shocked Braves Country, claiming, “The Braves are firing hitting coach Tim Hyers.”

The news spread quickly, but as of now, no reputable sources, such as MLB.com, ESPN, or The Athletic, have confirmed the firing.

The pressure on Hyers is undeniable, suggesting that the rumor, likely born of fan frustration, may have some basis despite the lack of official word.

The Braves’ front office, led by GM Alex Anthopoulos, faces a tough choice.

Firing Hyers midseason could signal panic and disrupt an already shaky clubhouse, especially with manager Brian Snitker’s potential retirement looming in 2026.

But with the trade deadline on July 31 approaching and the team sliding further out of playoff contention, doing nothing isn’t an option either.

House That Hank Built wote-:

“There have been some fans who think hitting coach Tim Hyers needs to be fired for things to change. But the fact of the matter is players need to change their approaches because what most of them have been doing isn’t working.”

The Braves are at a crossroads.

Their offense, once the envy of the league, is now a liability. Tim Hyers, hired to fix the problem, has become a scapegoat for a fan base desperate for answers.

Whether he’s truly to blame or simply a symptom of broader issues—aging stars, injuries, or a mismatched roster—remains unclear.

For now, Hyers appears to be safe, but the clock is ticking. If the Braves can’t turn things around soon, the calls for “Tim Hyers fired” will only grow louder.

Whether it’s Hyers’ coaching, the players’ execution, or a combination of both, something has to give.

Braves fans, struck by a disappointing season, are hoping it happens before it’s too late.
