Davey Martínez’s wife, Lisa, has stood by his side offering unconditional love and support through his MLB journey and his recent firing.

On July 6, 2025, the Washington Nationals fired manager Davey Martinez after a disappointing season, bringing to an end his eight-year tenure, which included a 2019 World Series win.

Amid this tough moment, Davey’s wife, Lisa, has his back like always, regardless of ups and downs. The couple has been nothing but each other’s biggest cheerers when the voices inside their heads were loud.

Lisa remains out of the public eye; nonetheless, her consistent presence through his career moves and their four-decade marriage speaks volumes about her love and support.

Davey and Lisa Martinez met when Davey was playing as an outfielder for the Chicago Cubs in the 1980s.

Lisa, born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, crossed paths with Davey during his time with the Cubs, which began in 1986.

While the precise details surrounding their very first meeting remain concealed, sources confirm they connected during his playing days in Chicago, likely around the late 1980s.

Eventually, their relationship grew into something special. Davey and Lisa have been married for over four decades, suggesting they tied the knot in the early 1980s, likely soon after meeting during Davey’s Cubs tenure.

Their long marriage has spanned Davey’s entire MLB career, from his days as a player with teams such as the Cubs, Montreal Expos, and Tampa Bay Rays, to his coaching roles and eventual rise to manager of the Washington Nationals in 2018.

Davey and Lisa lived in various places, including Safe Harbor, Florida, and later near Washington, D.C., to be close to the Nationals’ stadium.

Davey Joshua and Lisa Have Raised Four Children and a Foster Son!

The longtime married couple is parents to four children: three sons, Davey Joshua (Josh), Jagger Lee, and Dalton Richard, and one daughter, Angelica Kathleen. They have also raised a foster son, Mike Love, who is like a member of the family.

Davey and Lisa first experienced parenthood with the arrival of their son, Davey Joshua (Josh) Martinez.

Later, they extended their family of three to four, welcoming their second child, Jagger Lee Martinez, on September 25, 1992, followed by their third, Dalton Richard Martinez.

It was Dalton who suggested inviting Mike to live with them, showing the family’s openness and care.

Later, they welcomed their youngest and only daughter, Angelica.

Davey and Lisa expanded their family by raising a foster son, Mike Love, alongside their four biological children.

Their foster son Mike, a defensive end for the Buffalo Bills in the NFL, was raised by Davey and Lisa after becoming best friends with Dalton in middle school.

Mike’s mother lived nearby in Oldsmar, Florida, but he had never met his biological father. The Martinez family gave him a room in their Safe Harbor home and treated him as one of their own.

The NFL star has been vocal about the times spent with the Martinez family and has credited them for their positive impact on his life.

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • Before managing, Martinez was a respected bench coach for the Tampa Bay Rays under Joe Maddon and later followed Maddon to the Chicago Cubs, contributing to their 2016 World Series win.
  • He became the manager of the Nationals in 2018, his first managerial role at any level.
