Tragedy struck on the evening of Saturday, September 27, 2025, near the Cal State Fullerton campus.
Ashlyn and her teammate, sophomore Lauren Turner, were riding electric scooters to a men’s soccer game when a box truck collided with them around 7 p.m.
The crash was devastating. Lauren, a beloved 19-year-old from Riverside, fought valiantly but sadly passed away on November 7 after six weeks in the ICU, leaving the Titan community in mourning.
Ashlyn, too, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where she spent the first month in intensive care.
The news hit the Gwynn family like a thunderbolt. Snelly and Mathew dropped everything, driving cross-country from Utah to be by her bedside.
They held her hand through the darkest nights, whispering words of encouragement and clinging to every small sign of progress. “Our girl is a fighter, just like her dad,” Snelly shared in an emotional update.
Mathew, ever the rock, coordinated with doctors and kept the family grounded, reminding everyone that hope was their anchor.
