David Butterfield tragically died in a car accident on March 4, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Lakko Butterfield, and their seven children.
Reportedly, David Butterfield and some of his family members were travelling in Montana to visit relatives when they came across a devastating car accident that claimed his life.
Besides his tragic demise, his 16-year-old daughter, Kristina Butterfield, sustained severe brain injuries, and his wife, Jennifer Buttefield, suffered broken ribs and a ruptured spleen.
They were airlifted to a hospital in Billings and underwent surgery. However, David didn’t make it, but his daughter did. Reportedly, she is in a critical condition.
Butterfield’s daughter, Kristina Butterfield, is a junior at Hanks High School. At 6 feet 1 inch tall, she is ranked 4th in her class and is on the Varsity Girls’ Basketball team.
Miguel Padilla, head coach of Girls’ Basketball at Hanks High School in El Paso, Texas, has started a GoFundMe account to help the Butterfield family with funeral and medical expenses.
Thus far, the GoFundMe account, with a $20K goal, has already accumulated over $18K.

She started as a cashier and drive-thru manager at Taco Treat before securing roles such as international volunteer representative in Chile, student chef, and peer mentor at BYU.
McKenna later became a bilingual events specialist at Waterford.org and, finally, an operations manager at ABS Kids.
She earned her Bachelor’s in Experience Design and Management at Brigham Young University Marriott School of Business.

David Butterfield was a skilled and experienced professional with a diverse background in teaching, instructional specialist, athletic training, and event management.
He taught various university, college, and high school subjects, including medical terminology, life skills, and physical education.
David had extensive clinical experience as a head athletic trainer and medical coordinator. Additionally, he worked as a compliance auditor for pharmaceutical companies.
Throughout his career, David had been committed to providing excellent education, support, and care to students, athletes, and professionals.
The late athletic instructor had been working as an online instructor for Brigham Young University Idaho for over 12 years, since September 2012.
Subsequently, he worked as a PE instructor at Brigham Young University for almost 30 years.
David Butterfield was the head athletic trainer at Ysleta Independent School District and a medical coordinator at the University of Texas at El Paso’s National Youth Sports Program for three years.
