Though former F1 racer Ayrton Senna dated many ladies, he committed to only one, Lilian de Vasconcelos Souza, his first and only wife.

Ayrton Senna, the legendary Brazilian Formula One driver, began racing very early, nurtured by a wealthy family supporting his passion.

However, people won’t just remember him for his incredible career but also for his captivating, short-lived love life.

One of the most notable chapters in Senna’s love story was his relationship with Lilian Vasconcellos Souza. However, it didn’t last long and ended within a few years.

As he ascended the ranks of Formula One, he won three World Championships. However, Senna lived a short life and passed at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

Ayrton Senna and His First Wife, Lilian de Vasconcelos Souza, Had a Short-Lived Marriage of Just Three Years!

Ayrton Senna married only once throughout his lifetime. Lilian de Vasconcelos Souza was his first and last wife.

Lilian and Ayrton’s journey began in childhood when they grew up in the same neighborhood in Tremembé, São Paulo, Brazil.

Their friendship blossomed into romance as they matured, leading to their marriage on February 10, 1981.

The former couple tied the knot when Souza was just 19 years old, shortly after relocating to England.

As depicted in the Netflix series “Senna,” they faced the challenges of adapting to life as a new couple in a new country.

During their marriage, Lilian entirely dedicated her time to following Senna’s career and being his manager.

However, she said she felt much loneliness and frustration while establishing her identity outside his life.

Her partner’s contrasting ideas on family planning were another reason for their eventual separation in a few years. She had always felt his second love after racing.

She experienced an unintended pregnancy that ended in miscarriage, which highlighted their conflicting priorities.

In early 1982, they returned to Brazil with hopes of settling down. However, racing dreams led him back to England shortly thereafter.

Ultimately, the childhood friends-turned-husband-wife, Ayrton and Lilian, divorced quietly as the racing driver continued to advance in his career.

Lilian remarried six months later and had a son in 1984, shortly following her split from Ayrton Senna.

However, his divorce didn’t remain the only heartbreak he ever had. Ayrton had multiple relationships, which didn’t lead to marriage but ended with a worse heartbreak.

Late Brazilian Racing Driver Ayrton Senna Dated Many Ladies But Married Only One In His Lifetime!

While Ayrton Senna’s marriage to Lilian de Vasconcelos Souza is well-documented, his other relationships also impacted his life.

Another notable relationship was with Xuxa Meneghel, a prominent Brazilian television host and actress.

Their romance blossomed in the late 1980s and early 1990s, capturing grand public attention due to their celebrity statuses.

Although their relationship was intense, it ultimately didn’t last long, leading to its end around 1993.

The late racer’s most poignant relationship was with Adriane Galisteu, a Brazilian model and television personality.

Reports suggest that Adriane and Senna met at the 1993 Brazilian Grand Prix when she was working as a PR for Marlboro.

They began dating in 1993, and their relationship remained until his death at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

After his demise, she married businessman Roberto Justus briefly but found stability with Alexandre Iódice in 2010.

Apart from them, he dated Adriane Yamin, a 15-year-old, which captured massive media attention worldwide.

The media didn’t widely document all of his dating timelines. However, he shared relationships with Vera Peres, Carol Ann Alt, Cristine Ferracciu, and Elle MacPherson.

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • Ayrton underwent an electroencephalogram (EEG) that showed no abnormalities but later hindered his athleticism.
  • In addition to his native Portuguese, Senna was fluent in English, Italian, and Spanish.
  • Senna was an avid chess player and often engaged in matches with Sir Frank Williams.
