Baseball Pitcher Justin Verlander Signs With The Giants For A $15 Million Deal For The 2025 Season

Free-agent right-hander Justin Verlander, a Cy Young Award winner, has agreed on a one-year, $15 million deal with the San Francisco Giants for 2025.

This agreement marks a turning point in Verlander’s long career as he prepares to begin his 20th season in MLB at age 42.

Verlander started his career with the Detroit Tigers, where he became one of the best pitchers.

Verlander is a Hall of Famer, one of his generation’s most successful starting pitchers, who collected three American League Cy Young Awards and two World Series championships with the Houston Astros.

In 2022, he was only two years removed from his third Cy Young Award, proving he could still pitch with the best.

However, the previous season was not so good for him; he struggled with injuries and finished with a disappointing 5.48 ERA over 17 starts while playing for the Astros.

His performance included two stints on the injured list, first due to shoulder inflammation and later for neck discomfort, seriously impacting his ability to contribute effectively.

Yet despite those setbacks, Verlander’s career stats are nothing short of impressive: 262 wins, a 3.30 career ERA, standing among the all-time leaders in strikeouts, currently at 3,416 strikeouts.

The experience and leadership he will bring to a Giants pitching staff that carries a lot of young talent, such as Kyle Harrison and Hayden Birdsong, means they will benefit from the company of Verlander for his knowledge and experience.

The Giants Hope Verlander Can Return To Form With An Offseason To Rehabilitate And Train!

This deal became a major move by the Giants after they hired their current President of Baseball Operations, Buster Posey, back in September.

Posey was busy retooling the team roster after he signed free agent shortstop Willy Adames to a seven-year, $182 million contract.

The Giants hope to improve from last year’s fourth place in the National League West with an 80-82 record.

In some ways, Verlander’s signing for the Giants has become some estimated risk in their eyes.

Still, with his previous successes and performance well under stressors, he is quite the catch.

The organization is hopeful that with an entire offseason to rehabilitate and train, Verlander can return to a more respectable form, a 3.22 ERA he achieved while with the Mets before the team dealt him back to Houston in 2023.

Justin Verlander’s Signing With The San Francisco Giants For 2025 Marks A New Chapter In His Career!

As Verlander heads to the Giants, he’ll be trying to bounce back from the recent struggles while being able to mentor some of the younger pitchers on the staff.

His presence has grown the rotation and added stability to a team still finding its way this offseason.

The Giants have expressed interest in adding even more to their roster, targeting other free agents to improve their offense.

In summary, Justin Verlander’s signing with the San Francisco Giants for the 2025 season represents a new chapter in his storied career and a strategic move by the Giants to strengthen their pitching lineup.

As Verlander prepares for what could be another outstanding season at Oracle Park, where he last pitched during the 2012 World Series, fans will be watching to see how this veteran ace performs in his latest baseball effort.
