An 11-year-old Whitman, Massachusetts boy, Alexander Joseph Young, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, fighting cancer.
Alexander Joseph Young is survived by his father, Eric Young of Whitman; his grandparents, Kathleen and Donald Young of Whitman, and Patricia and Joseph Hood of Carver.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kimberly Hood, with whom he is now reunited. However, the reason behind Kimberly’s demise remains unknown.
In addition to his father and grandparents, Alexander also left behind his aunt, Victoria (Hood) Tibbetts, and his cousins, Bella and Lucas, along with a wide circle of extended family.
Munk Duane, Alexander’s neighbour, wrote a short eulogy expressing his sadness, writing:
Our little neighbor Alex is finally at rest after a long battle with Cancer. This little boy was full of life, wonder and a love for hotrods. Our family is absolutely crushed.

Born on December 27, 2013, Alex was the cherished son of Eric Young and the late Kimberly Hood. Though his life was short, Alex brought joy and inspiration to everyone who knew him.

Despite his young age, Alex lived a life full of passion and adventure. He was a proud member of Boy Scout Troop 22 in Whitman, where he enjoyed camping and learning new skills.
He loved playing baseball in the Whitman Little League and bowling with friends at Timber Lanes in Abington.
His love for sports shone through in the Whitman Little League, where he played in the youth bowling league at Timber Lanes in Abington.
Alex had a big heart and a curious mind, with a special love for trains and fancy cars. One of his favorite memories was a Make-A-Wish trip to New York City on an Amtrak train. He also treasured a ride in his Uncle Charlie’s Porsche 911 during a trip to North Carolina.
Serving as the Pedal Partner for Team Siena in the Pan-Mass Challenge, Alex inspired many to contribute to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Family and friends will gather to honor Alex on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Whitman.
A funeral procession will depart from the chapel on Thursday, April 17, at 9:45 AM, followed by a prayer service at 10:30 AM at Holy Ghost Church in Whitman. Alex will be laid to rest at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree.
Instead of flowers, the family asks for donations to Team Siena, where Alex was a Pedal Partner for the Pan-Mass Challenge, which supports the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to Alexander Joseph Young’s parents, friends, and extended family.
