After a whirlwind romance and a brief but highly publicized union, former university soccer player and “Basketball Wives” star Brittany Renner and Kevin Gates have officially gone their separate ways, just 52 days after tying the knot.
In a candid interview with REAL 92.3 LA on June 7, Renner, 33, confirmed that she and the rapper ended their marriage less than two months after saying “I do.”

During an interview, Renner said,
“We got married April 6 and divorced May 28.”
The couple’s split came as a shock to fans who had only recently celebrated their engagement and marriage after Renner flashed a diamond ring at the Basketball Wives Season 11 premiere in May.
Just weeks prior, she had affectionately referred to Gates as her “huzband” in a now-deleted Instagram post.
While the official paperwork has been filed, Renner revealed they are now observing a 90-day Islamic waiting period known as Iddah, which allows time for possible reconciliation and to determine pregnancy.
She explained,
“In those 90 days, you are not to entertain anybody romantically. Allah wants you to stay married.”
Despite the quick split, Renner expressed no regrets by saying,
“I followed my heart and that’s more than anyone can say in this world.”
She added that the marriage served as a “90-day reset” for her to focus inward, prioritize self-care, and move forward with clarity.
The Basketball Wives star, also known for her past relationship with NBA player P.J. Washington, with whom she shares a son, was open about how deeply she felt about Gates at the time.
Meanwhile, the rapper has been notably more reserved about the breakup.
When approached on the BET Awards red carpet about Renner walking alone, Gates calmly replied:
“Oh, who I love I don’t discuss… but I wish her the best.”
Dreka Gates Has Yet To Speak Of Her Marriage With The Rapper
The public breakup has reignited curiosity about Kevin Gates’ long-standing marriage to Dreka Gates.
The rapper married Dreka in 2015, and despite his public romance with Renner, there have been no official reports of divorce or separation from Dreka.
The couple shares two children and has long practiced a more spiritual and holistic approach to both life and love.
Dreka, often silent amid online gossip, recently addressed rumors about cheating with her personal trainer:
“I have NEVER had any type of sexual or romantic encounters with my personal trainer or any ‘hired help’ and will NEVER.”
However, she did not attend the BET Awards and has not publicly commented on Gates’ short-lived marriage to Renner.
