Bayonne Softball Player Shannon Matos’ Death Leaves Family, Friends, and Community Heartbroken

The Bayonne community is mourning the tragic loss of Shannon Matos, who passed away unexpectedly on September 14, 2025, at just 25 years old.

Her death has left family, friends, and loved ones devastated as they remember a young woman who brought light, love, and kindness to everyone she met.

Shannon’s sister, Jessica Matos, is organizing a fundraiser to help cover funeral and memorial expenses.

In her heartfelt message, Jessica described Shannon as,

“a light in the lives of everyone who knew her—kind, loving, and always ready to lend a hand or a smile.”

She emphasized the family’s wish to give Shannon the dignity and love she deserves in her final farewell.

Misty Matos, speaking on behalf of the family, shared the depth of their grief.

Condolences have poured in from relatives, friends, and community members who cherished Shannon.

John and Linda Davis expressed their heartbreak, saying they were deeply saddened by her passing.

Karen Callaghan Levinson, Shannon’s great-aunt, wrote,

“Our young great niece Shannon Matos has joined her mother Michele in heaven. Sometimes there are no words.”
