The Bayou Academy community is reeling from heartbreak following the tragic deaths of two students, Ryder Houser and Josh Willoughby, who lost their lives in a devastating car accident on the morning of Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

Ryder was en route to football practice when the incident occurred, cutting short a young life full of promise, talent, and spirit.

A proud senior-to-be, Ryder Houser was a standout student and a devoted athlete at Bayou Academy, where he made his mark on the field as a dedicated football player.

Known for his vibrant energy, Ryder was not only a talented Colt but also a beloved member of the school’s close-knit family.

Ryder Houser Is Remembered From Family And Friends

Ryder’s aunt, Cindy Jaudon, shared a heartfelt tribute following the news of his passing:

“My great nephew, Ryder Houser, was killed in an auto accident early this morning on his way to football practice. I will be on my way to Cleveland in the morning to be with my family, Housers and Wheelers. My prayers for the other young man who also lost his life.”

That other young man, Josh Willoughby, was also a student at Bayou Academy, further intensifying the tragedy’s impact on the school and the broader Cleveland community.

The sudden loss of not just one, but two young lives, has sent shockwaves of grief and sorrow across the region.

Bayou Academy released a statement expressing profound grief and solidarity:

“We ask that you pray for all the families involved in today’s tragic events, as well as our BA Family. We are all hurting at the loss of two of our own. We also ask that you pray for those at the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office and the families involved. If any of our students need someone to talk to, our counselor & principal are available. Please email [email protected] or [email protected]. We are here for you.”

Ryder Houser’s Celebration Of Life Will Be Held On July 10

Ryder Houser went to be with the Lord on July 8, a date now etched in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Moreover, Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 5:00 p.m.

As Bayou Academy begins what will undoubtedly be a long journey of healing, students, faculty, and families are leaning on one another for strength.
