Belfry Players Left Outside in Freezing Conditions During Halftime While LCA Coaches Gain Tactical Advantage; Parents and Alumni Demand KHSAA Action

Belfry’s Halftime Injustice

This article was last updated by on

The injustice happened in Lexington, where an entire Belfry team was escorted out and kept on a dirt field in freezing temperatures while Lexington Christian Academy (LCA) remained inside.

In the recent state semifinal game, Belfry players were forced to remain outside in freezing conditions during halftime.

On the other hand, Lexington Christian Academy (LCA) coaches and players stayed inside, gaining a tactical advantage.

This decision left Belfry athletes unable to properly rest, warm up, or even use restroom facilities, which directly impacted their performance in the second half.

Belfry Players Left Outside In the Cold While LCA Gains Advantage!

Billie Roddy Rogers took to Facebook to express her outrage, grounding her post in her deep family ties to athletics and Belfry’s legacy.

She emphasized her disbelief at the incident, calling it “straight out cheating” and detailing how Belfry’s halftime disadvantage was not only unfair but deliberately orchestrated.

Rogers highlighted the lack of justification for LCA’s actions and questioned their claim of tradition.

Further, she demanded accountability from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA).

She concluded her post with a passionate call for disciplinary action, saying:

I hope the KHSAA steps up and does something about this matter. Some form of disciplinary action needs to be taken. If they don’t, I have the feeling that they’re in for a rough ride from the Pond Creek Nation. Yes, this is a sports competition and rules get bent all the time when competition gets heated. But at the end of the day, we’re talking about GROWN men and a “Christian” academy inflicting cruelty on a group of kids all because, that group of kids was beating them on their home turf.

People quickly reacted to Rogers’ post, sharing their points of view and reflecting her frustration.

One commenter shared their POV, highlighting their disbelief, saying,

WOW. These are kids!! Are they that afraid of losing that they put being a decent human completely out the door?!!

Another voiced their anger at LCA’s conduct, saying,

They sure aren’t not a Christian school bunch of clowns I wouldn’t never play there again.

Others criticized the choice of venue, saying,

If the facility is not set up any better than that then there’s absolutely no reason why a state semifinal game should be held there. And if that’s how a ‘Christian’ school treats others then they need to change their name!

What should have been a fair competition turned into a situation where one team was disadvantaged by circumstances beyond the game itself.

This raised serious concerns about fairness, player safety, and sportsmanship.
