David E. Crear, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, coach, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, at the age of 82.

Surrounded by his loving family in his final moments, Dave left behind a legacy of kindness, mentorship, and love for sports, country music, and community.

Family Mourns The Sudden Loss

Born on July 12, 1943, Dave was known throughout his life for his warm spirit, competitive edge, and deep faith.

He is now reunited in peace with his parents, Gene and Frances Crear, and his brothers, Kent and Alan Crear.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Barb, daughter Kim (Scott) Thomas, son Kurt, grandchildren Hunter, Haley, and Hope Thomas, Noah Crear, and his sister, Debbie (Chris) Bennett.

His family remembers him not just as a loving patriarch, but as a mentor and inspiration in every stage of life.

Dave Crear’s impact was far-reaching.

As a talented athlete, passionate sports fan, and competitive coach, he shaped countless lives both on and off the field.

Tributes Pour In For The Beloved Soul

Former students and players remember him not only for his knowledge and drive, but also for the kindness and integrity he brought to every encounter.

His daughter, Kim Crear Thomas, shared the heartbreaking news in a touching post:

“The past few weeks have been a whirlwind, but we’re comforted knowing dad is at peace. Sharing his obituary for those of you that knew Dave through the years.”

Tributes poured in following the announcement of his passing, with one former student saying,

“I am so so sorry!! Coach Crear, rest in paradise. Much love to your family.”

Another added,

“Sorry for your loss. Great teacher, coach and man!”

The third mentioned,

“He was a good teacher and coach at North. Sorry for your loss.”

While the family mourns this great loss, they also celebrate the man he was, someone who led by example, lived with purpose, and gave generously.

Dave found joy in the simplicity of life, especially in tending his garden and playing his favorite country songs.

In honoring Dave’s memory, the family has requested that instead of flowers, people perform an act of kindness in his name, a fitting tribute for someone who devoted his life to lifting others up.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, allowing friends, former colleagues, students, and community members to gather and remember a man who truly made a difference.

As his loved ones wrote, their faith, grounded in John 14:6, gives them hope and comfort:

“We are heartbroken by his passing, yet comforted knowing his suffering is over. Our strong Faith gives us hope in knowing we will be together again.”

Rest in peace, David E. Crear!
