Malick Karamoko, a former University of Rhode Island athlete and dedicated correctional officer, has suddenly passed away, leaving his family, friends, and the Rhode Island community in mourning.

Malick, who grew up in Brooklyn, New York, made his home in Providence, Rhode Island.

He created a life filled with kindness, strength, and a vibrant energy that influenced everyone around him.

His unexpected passing has left us in deep sorrow, reminding us of how fragile life is and of the lasting impact of those who live it with true passion.

Born to Abibata Bamba and Mr. Karamoko, Malick grew up in Brooklyn alongside his brother, forging strong family bonds that would shape his compassionate character.

Tragically, his passing follows the loss of his beloved mother, who succumbed to cancer in 2019, a blow that undoubtedly tested his strength but never dimmed his spirit.

Those who knew him describe Malick as a bright, loving soul whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and compassion to any room he entered.

Whether on the football field, at work, or in casual gatherings, he had a way of making people feel seen and valued, turning ordinary moments into cherished memories.

Malick’s journey took him to the University of Rhode Island, where he excelled both academically and athletically.

As a standout football player for the Rams, he represented the spirit and teamwork that defined his approach to life, often referred to by friends as a “humble giant” who dominated on the field while remaining approachable off it.

He graduated in 2018 with a degree in English Language and Literature, proof of his intellectual curiosity and well-rounded nature.

His time at URI not only honed his athletic skills but also built lifelong friendships, many of which were rooted in shared triumphs and challenges during games and practices.

After college, Malick continued to channel his discipline and sense of duty into his professional life.

In 2023, he joined the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility as a correctional officer, a role that suited his strong moral compass and commitment to public service.

Colleagues and friends alike noted his reliability and positive attitude, qualities that made him a pillar in high-pressure environments.

Beyond his career, Malick’s love for football persisted; tributes from peers highlight his involvement in local teams like the Cowboys, where he brought the same fierce energy and camaraderie that marked his college days.

Many People have expressed their sadness and shared condolences after hearing about Malick’s death.

Victor Rosado, a close friend, shared a moving tribute:

“Na bro this news got me sick to my stomach fam like this can’t be real, not you… From playing backyard football on Saturdays at Mount to rocking out with the Cowboys, you was always the best energy on the field and in any room you walked in. A humble giant who knew his power in his presence both on & off the field. I loved running into you in parties or random places & seeing that big ass smile cuz it was always love and a good time. When I blew my ACL on the Cowboys and started going hard with my photography you always supported and called me the sniper lol. It’s funny cuz one of my favorite sports pics I ever took was with you ready to do what you did best and that was torture a QB. The city lost a true King today… This one hurts a little deeper because of what a great soul you were. I pray you get to reunite with your moms and rest in eternal paradise kid. Love you bro and Rest easy now Malick Karamoko.”

Echoing this sentiment, Carlos Jimenez reflected on their deep bond:

“Breaks my heart to type this out as you were like a brother to me. Will always cherish the memories we made growing up playing card games and talking about anime or just having roast sessions or playing basketball at my house. You were always a genuine person from day 1 but I know you’re in a better place with our brother Pedro and of course your queen. May your smile brighten those in heaven as you did those here on earth. RIP brother, already miss you.”

These remembrances paint a vivid picture of Malick as not just an athlete or professional, but a true friend who fostered joy and support in every interaction.

His ability to connect deeply with people, from childhood games to adult adventures, underscores the irreplaceable loss felt by so many.

In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Malick’s family with funeral and memorial expenses, aiming to raise $20,000.

The fund reflects the community’s desire to honor his memory and ease the burden on his loved ones during this difficult time.

As details about services emerge, friends and family continue to gather, sharing stories that celebrate his life rather than dwell solely on its end.

Malick Karamoko’s story is one of triumph over adversity, from personal losses to professional achievements, all while maintaining a heart full of love.

Though gone too soon, his legacy of warmth and strength will endure in the hearts of those he left behind, inspiring them to carry forward the light he so effortlessly shared.

Rest in peace, Malick, a true king whose impact will never fade.
