Belvidere South Middle School cheer coach Nicholas Ortiz-Hansen was arrested on October 8, 2025, for several counts of inappropriate behavior involving children.

Illinois State Police special agents arrested Nicholas, a 32-year-old from Rockford, Illinois. He now faces serious charges related to inappropriate behavior involving children.

He is accused of trying to get child sexual abuse materials, grooming a child, and encouraging a child to remove their clothes.

Nicholas was taken under the control for one count of Solicitation of Child Sexual Abuse Material (Class 2 Felony), one count of Grooming (Class 4 Felony), and one count of Enticement of a Child to Remove Clothes (Class A Misdemeanor).

On October 2, 2025, police searched Ortiz-Hansen’s home after getting the search warrant in the 5000 block of Alma Drive in Rockford. They collected electronic devices and found evidence of child sexual abuse materials.

A couple of days later, ISP Special Agents took him into custody on the charges mentioned above.

Ortiz-Hansen was then taken to the Winnebago County Jail, where he is being held.

ISP Special Agents weren’t the only ones who worked alone; several local agencies also contributed to the case, including the Rockford Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Freeport Police Department, Loves Park Police Department, and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
