Gabrielle “Gabby” Equia, an 18-year-old senior and gymnast from Bloomingdale Senior High School in Brandon, FL, tragically passed away on June 4, 2025.

The cause of her death was linked to a serious car accident that occurred on May 23, 2025.

That accident left Gabby in critical condition, just days before her high school graduation.

In response, a GoFundMe campaign “Support Gabby’s Recovery After Accident” was created by Blair Alsup to support her and her family during that tough time.

The fundraiser was launched to help cover medical expenses and provide emotional and financial support.

Despite the tireless efforts of her doctors to stabilize her condition and the support of her community, Gabby Eguia tragically passed away after two weeks of fighting for her life.

Gabby Eguia Was A Competitive Gymnast And Cheerleader!

Gabby Eguia played flag football during her time at Bloomingdale Senior High School.

She was a member of the junior varsity flag football team, where she wore jersey number 4 and contributed as both an athlete and running back.

At the same time, she was part of Bloomingdale High School’s cheerleading team for three years, earning the title of Scholar Cheerleader.

She was named an All-American Cheerleader multiple times and competed with a competitive cheer team outside of school.

Most notably, she helped lead Bloomingdale High School’s varsity cheer team to its first-ever National Championship.

She once mentioned that her favorite memory was staying at the nationals’ house with her teammates during her junior year.

She was a member of the Class of 2025 and planned to attend Florida Atlantic University, where she intended to major in criminology.

However, due to the tragic accident that occurred just six days prior, Eguia was unable to attend the ceremony.

Her loved ones were praying for her recovery, but despite their hope, she passed away, leaving behind her parents, Noe and Michelle, and her loving sister, Sofia.

Eguia’s passing has deeply affected both her family and the wider Bloomingdale and Brandon communities.

Friends and teachers paid tribute via social media, remembering her as a joyful, inspiring, and hardworking young woman.

Likewise, the Golden City Gymnastics team also offered a heartfelt tribute reflecting the loss of a talented gymnast, saying:

We are devastated by the news of the passing of Gabrielle (Gabby) Eguia. Gabby was a gymnast at Golden City for many years and she will be greatly missed. Please keep her parents, sister, and family and friends in your prayers as they grieve the loss of Gabby. Our hearts and prayers go out to them 🙏🏻
