The late collegiate football player Bryce Stanfield had no wife and wasn’t a married man. The 21-year-old defensive tackle passed away on Friday, two days after collapsing at the school’s stadium.
Stanfield is survived by his parents, Teri and Fred Stanfield, and by his maternal grandfather, Earl Smith. He had previously shared the photo of all four of them after graduating from Harrison High School in 2021.
Furman’s president, Elizabeth Davis, said in a letter to the university community that Bryce had collapsed at a Wednesday morning workout and was taken to the hospital. The defensive tackle was then placed on life support.
Alongside being a talented football player and outstanding student, the youngster also worked with local schools. He would visit patients at Greenville Children’s Hospital and read to children.
Bryce Stanfield Wife: Was Furman Football Player Married?
The late Furman University player Bryce Stanfield wasn’t married and had no wife. Only 21, Stanfield was focused on his football career and graduating with his health science degree.
Stanfield, a junior defensive tackle, played all 13 games last season and was part of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. He was also on the list of the Southern Conference Fall All-Academic Team.
In 13 games, Stanfield recorded 13 tackles, including four for-loos, and 2.5 sacks. He was also a key contributor to a Paladin defense. Bryce had a scoring defense of 18.2 points per game, a rushing defense of 96.9 yards per game, and 38 sacks.
On his Instagram, Bryce has shared a few posts, with most being him in action on the football field. He has also shared a couple of posts with his family, including pictures of his parents and grandfather.
His last post on Instagram was on January 1, with the defensive tackle sharing a gallery of images, looking back at 2023. In his obituary, it is stated that the footballer wanted to become a dentist after his graduation.
No mention of a wife or fiance has been made in his obituary.

Bryce Stanfield was the only child of his parents, Teri and Fred Stanfield. That is why you can only see pictures of Bryce and his achievements on his parents’ social media handles.
Previously, in 2021, Bryce had traveled to Disney World with his parents, with the late footballer sharing a few pictures from their fun trip. It was also in 2021 that Bryce graduated from Harrison.
Proud dad Fred had shared several photos from the graduation ceremony and had captioned the post, “Diploma time!”
Last year, in September, Teri shared a video reel showing Bryce at age nine wearing his Phillies gear and Bryce of 2023 wearing the Paladins uniform.
A day later, on his birthday, Teri made a montage of Bryce from when he was born until his last birthday. The Stanfield family might’ve recently revisited the Disney World, with Teri sharing some photos from the trip.
On Wednesday, the day Bryce collapsed, Teri’s friend, April, logged into her account to share the message that Teri and Fred were with Bryce at the hospital.
On Sunday, two days after Bryce’s demise, Teri shared Bryce’s obituary on her Facebook page. Furman head coach Clay Hendrix shared a statement on behalf of the university.
The statement read, “We are heartbroken beyond measure with Bryce’s sudden passing and ask that everyone, first and foremost, lift up his parents, Fred and Teri Stanfield and their family, in prayer on this day and in the days ahead.”
