Peabody, Massachusetts Native and Bridgewater State University Baseball Standout Cameron Connolly, 19, Suffers Traumatic Accident Causing Severe Spinal Injury; Community Gathers in Support

The Peabody, Massachusetts community is rallying and praying for the speedy recovery of beloved native and standout athlete, Cameron Connolly, 19, after he suffered s severe spinal injury early Sunday morning, December 7, 2025.

According to a GoFundMe created by his family, Cameron Connolly fell backward from a porch at Bridgewater State University, where he is a student-athlete, landing on his back, and was rushed to Boston Medical Center for emergency spinal surgery, where he remains in intensive care.

The Connolly family expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support from friends, relatives from Peabody, Lynn, and surrounding areas, as well as the Bridgewater State University baseball team.

Messages of encouragement and prayers have poured in from all corners of the community.

Cameron’s injury has affected his central nervous system, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.

He will require a wheelchair and other accommodations, though thankfully, his head, brain, and upper body were not affected. He maintains full strength in his upper body and can communicate normally.

In the coming weeks, Cameron will begin treatment at Spaulding Rehab, where he will learn to adapt to life with his injury and regain as much independence as possible.

Despite this life-changing event, Cameron remains determined. His ultimate goal is to walk again, and his family emphasizes his motivation and physical strength as reasons they are confident he will succeed. They are committed to supporting him through this difficult journey.

The Connolly family urges the public to continue sending support, prayers, and encouragement as Cameron faces one of the toughest challenges of his life.

The Peabody community has already shown overwhelming care, demonstrating how much Cameron means to those around him.

Furthermore, the fundraiser created by the family aims to collect $50k to cover the medical expenses as Cameron continues to heal in the hospital, and to date, around $31,760 has been raised.

Cameron Connolly is An Accomplished Baseball Player

Cameron Connolly is an accomplished left-handed pitcher from Peabody, Massachusetts, who has quickly established himself as a rising talent in collegiate baseball, playing for the BSU Bears.

Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 180 pounds, Cameron, now 19 years old, developed his foundational skills at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, where his performances on the mound consistently drew attention.

Beyond high school, he further sharpened his abilities with the travel team Extra Innings 17U, gaining experience against top-level competition and preparing for the next stage of his baseball journey.

In 2025, as a freshman at Bridgewater State College, Cameron made an immediate impact in the MASCAC.

Over 11 appearances, including 5 starts, he compiled a 4-1 win-loss record and maintained a 3.74 ERA across 33.2 innings pitched.

He struck out 19 batters while allowing 17 runs and 40 hits, and kept a WHIP of 1.37, demonstrating both consistency and stability on the mound.

His left-handed pitching, combined with a strong understanding of the game, has made him a reliable presence for the Bears’ rotation, reflecting his high-level skill and potential for growth in NCAA competition.

Cameron’s dedication extends beyond his statistics. Known for his work ethic, focus, and leadership, he has earned the respect of teammates and coaches alike.

Son of Kevin and Jennifer Connolly, he also carries the pride of his family and community, representing Peabody at the collegiate level with calmness and determination.

With his combination of talent, discipline, and passion for the game, Cameron Connolly is poised for a promising baseball career, inspiring younger athletes and leaving a lasting mark at Bridgewater State.
