Carlisle High School Soccer and Cheerleading Star Lucy Sytsma Passes Away, Leaving Behind Her Father, Josh, and Her Entire Family

Lucy Sytsma, a multi-sports athlete and senior at Carlisle High School, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025, at an untimely age, leaving her family and loved ones devastated.

While the family hasn’t yet disclosed the reasons behind her untimely death, some social media reports state that Lucky Sytsma lost her life during Cheerleading practice.

Many of her loved ones are paying tribute to the late Lucia ‘Lucy’ and extending their heartfelt condolences to her family during this difficult time.

One wrote:

“Sending condolences to Lucy’s family, friends, and our community as they navigate their grief this morning. Such a vibrant cheerleader and soul was lost far too young. May she rest in peace, fly high Lucy💛❤️🙏🙏.”

Lucy Sytsma touched the lives of many with her cheerful nature and her amazing athletic skills, excelling in multiple sports at Carlisle High School.

She was a standout member of multiple varsity teams, including Girls Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Wrestling, and Varsity Track & Field.

Wearing jersey number 24 and playing as a midfielder, Lucy led her varsity soccer team to several victories.

In addition to excelling in these sports, she was an active participant on the CHS Cheerleading Team and won several honorable titles for her remarkable performances.

Lucy Sytsma is Survived by Her Parents, Siblings, and the Entire Family

In addition to being an amazing athlete, Lucy Sytsma was also a great daughter to her parents.

While no information about her mother, including her name and profession, is available as she prefers to maintain a low profile, her father, Josh Mathew Sytsma, often shares pictures of Lucy on social media expressing his love and pride for her.

Lucy’s father, Josh Sytsma, has owned and operated Sparrow Technologies, an IT consulting company in Altoona, Iowa, since 2001.

A graduate of Des Moines Area Community College, Josh began his career as an operations excellence supervisor at United Parcel Service in 1998, where he served in that position for nearly six years.

He further became a mortgage broker at Great Plains Mortgage and a desktop technician at Mercy Medical Center before establishing his own company.

In addition to her father, Josh Sytsma, Lucy Sytsma is survived by her sister, Shayden Sytsma; her brother, Tim Sytsma; her grandparents; her uncles; her aunts; her cousins; and the entire family.

Lucy Sytsma’s kind nature and her indescribable contribution to the community will always be remembered.
