NHL fans have been curious about Carter Verhaeghe’s parents Thomas and Karen, who has been a constant presence at almost all of their son’s games throughout the season.

A professional ice hockey center from Canada, Carter Verhaeghe is now with the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Verhaeghe was part of a multi-player transaction that sent Michael Grabner to the New York Islanders before training camp on September 18, 2015.

He was traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs to the New York Islanders on September 18, 2015, as part of a larger transaction involving many players for Michael Grabner, before the start of Verhaeghe’s first professional season.

On July 1, 2017, the Islanders sent Verhaeghe, who still had one year left on his entry-level contract, to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Kristers Gudevskis.

He won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Lightning in 2020.

Carter Verhaeghe was born to his parents, Karen and Thomas, on 14 August 1995 in Waterdown, Hamilton, Canada.

The couple has another daughter whose name is Victoria.

The Verhaeghe family had to relocate frequently, so after a little time spent in Toronto, Verhaeghe developed a love for Mats Sundin and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

His father introduced him to the sport of ice hockey, and he credits both of his parents for helping him succeed. Hockey, lacrosse, and soccer were among the sports Verhaeghe and his sister Victoria played as kids.

Thomas works as a fireman for the Toronto Fire Department. He and his wife, Karen, have helped Carter in every way they can.

When Carter Verhaeghe has free time, he enjoys spending it with his family and friends in his old neighborhood.

For his first game, he was accompanied by 15 friends and family members.

Contracts

Carter Verhaeghe has so far earned $10.7 million from his NHL career, according to Spotrac.com.

On July 28, 2021, he signed a 3-year $12.5 million contract extension with Florida.

The contract includes $12,500,000 guaranteed and an annual average salary of $4,166,667.

In 2023-24, Verhaeghe will earn a base salary of $4.5 million and a signing bonus of $500,000.

After helping the Lightning secure the championship, Carter Verhaeghe’s status as an impending restricted free agent with arbitration rights challenged the team due to salary cap constraints.

As a result, he was not offered a qualifying offer by Lightning and was released to explore free agency.

After this, he signed with the Panthers on a two-year, $2 million contract, which he signed on October 9, 2020.
