A 20-year-old Catawba College soccer goalkeeper and former Bandys HS athlete, Fletcher Harris, and his girlfriend, Skylar Nichole Provenza, passed away in a head-on collision on Friday night, January 16, 2026.
According to reports, they were tragically killed in a car crash caused by a drunk driver. The accident occurred when a pickup truck collided with their car.
The couple was so in love; however, their love story was cut short in a tragic accident as they both took their last breath at the scene.
Fletcher Harris is survived by his parents, Mark and Meredith Harris, and his three brothers.
So far, Mark and Meredith haven’t broken their silence on his sudden passing as they are processing the loss and grieving in private.

Meanwhile, two different Meal Train has been set up to help the Harris and the Hamrick families.
Reportedly, the devastating crash occurred just after 11 p.m. on Amity Hill Road near Cleveland, east of the Iredell County line.
While the couple lost their lives, the drunk driver of the truck, 37-year-old Juan Alvarado Aguilar, sustained only minor injuries.
He was arrested at the scene and taken into custody in handcuffs, with his bond set at $251,500.
Reportedly, Juan was handcuffed, and his bond is set at $251,500. He faces charges of driving while impaired, felony death by vehicle, and failure to appear.
Born in Saginaw, Michigan, Fletcher was a soccer and football player at Bandys High School, from where he graduated in 2023.
At Bandys High School, Harris earned multiple letters in soccer and football, as well as two in track.
After his graduation, he continued playing soccer at Catawba College, where he played for the past three seasons.
Besides sports, he also showed his excellence in academics. A double major in Environmental and Sustainability and Biology, Fletcher was consistently recognized on the Presidential Honor Roll and Dean’s List.
Following the disclosure of the exclusive news, several words of condolences came forward in no time.
Catawba College Athletic Director Joe Tolbert expressed his words of condolence:
We are heartbroken to share the news of Fletcher’s passing. He was a beloved member of our men’s soccer program and an outstanding student-athlete. Fletcher’s impact on our campus community was profound, and the response of love and support has been overwhelming, reflecting the incredible young man he was. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, and we will continue to support them in every way we can.
Bandys High School expressed its grief at the demise of its former student and athlete, writing:
We are very saddened to hear of this awful tragedy. Fletcher was always one of the most kind, genuine, and selfless young men you’ve ever met. He was always the hardest worker in the room. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Harris family during this difficult time.
