Cayden Primeau started against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday in the very city he grew up in while his dad, Keith, was playing for the Flyers in the early 2000s.

The Canadiens goalie, Cayden Primeau made 37 saves, and another two in the shootout against his hometown team.

However, the influence and inspiration from his father, Keith Primeau, are undeniable in his journey to professional hockey success.

Cayden Primeau was born on August 11, 1999, in Michigan, into a family deeply rooted in the hockey culture.

The youngest son of Keith Primeau, Cayden plays between the Pipes for the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL.

Cayden’s journey to the professional ranks began at Northeastern University. There, he tended to the goal for the Huskies in the NCAA.

During his time at Northeastern, Cayden emerged as one of the top prospects in college hockey.

Similarly, he won the Hockey East Tournament in 2019 and was named an AHCA East First Team All-American.

Given his stellar college career, the Montreal Canadiens selected Cayden in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Eventually, Cayden signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadiens in 2019.

Keith Primeau, born on November 24, 1971, is a name etched in the annals of Canadian ice hockey history.

Likewise, he won gold at the 1997 Men’s Ice Hockey World Championships with the Canadian National Team.

As a result, there was no other option than hockey for Cayden. Albeit, the last place Keith wanted to find his son Cayden located was between the pipes.

Even though it took a lot of pleading from Cayden to become a goaltender, Keith loves watching his son nowadays.

Nonetheless, Cayden’s transition to the professional level was a testament to the dedication instilled in him by his father.

Cayden admitted in a 2020 Sportsnet interview that he was very fortunate to grow up in a hockey household. 

For Cayden, having Keith as a father has been a source of inspiration and motivation.

The elder Primeau’s achievements on the ice serve as a benchmark for Cayden. It pushed him to strive for greatness and make his own mark in the NHL.

Although Keith has little idea about goaltending, he just tells his son to always do his best, work hard, and be dedicated.
