CGU Alumna And Golfer Elaine ‘Ginger’ Pizza Passes Away At 87, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Love and Family

Elaine ‘Ginger’ Pizza – a dear alumnus from Claremont Graduate University and an avid golfer-went to her eternal rest at the ripe age of 87 years.

Her nickname “Ginger” derives from the famous actress Ginger Rogers, representing that during Elaine’s childhood, she liked ballroom dancing.

She was filled with life’s accomplishments and great moments, giving her family and friends fond memories to keep in their hearts and minds.

She was born Elaine on February 17, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, and she has since spent her life in and about the greater Chicago area, living in Lansing, Olympia Fields, Orland Park, and most currently, the New Eastside of downtown Chicago.

Elaine earned her first degree in education at Elmhurst College but revisited art in earnest later at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).

At age 65, she received her Master’s in Fine Arts from Claremont Graduate University (CGU) in Claremont, California.

Elaine also loved to travel the world and play golf socially.

She was a 40-year Olympia Fields Country Club member and belonged to Crystal Tree Country Club in Orland Park and Bighorn Country Club in Palm Desert, California.

One of her remarkable golfing exploits was playing the famous 18 holes of the “Old Course” at St. Andrews in Scotland, where she braved the rain while carrying her clubs due to a shortage of caddies.

Elaines’ artistic career included numerous solo and group exhibits throughout California, Chicago, London, and Sotogrande, Spain.

She created Geometric Abstract paintings and was represented by the Melissa Morgan Fine Art Gallery in Palm Desert.

Her work is established in collections worldwide and at the Bighorn Golf Club.

She received many honors for her talent, including being recognized as the “Best Abstract Art” winner at the Palm Springs Museum Artist Council.

Elaine Pizza’s Legacy Will Continue To Inspire All Who Knew Her And Appreciated Her Contributions

Elaine married Don Pizza in 1957.

Together, they raised three children: David Pizza, Donia Ricci, and Donald Edward.

Unfortunately, she faced the tragic loss of her adult son, Donald.

She remained the rock that held her family together.

Her daughter Donia shared a heartfelt tribute on social media following Elaine’s passing:-

“I lost my mom yesterday and my dad lost the love of his life for over 65 years. We will miss her dearly, but relieved she is no longer suffering in a body and brain that failed her. Please take the time to read the obituary my dad has written, she was an amazing women that accomplished so much in her lifetime, it was a life well lived.”

Additionally, Fay Booker’s daughter-in-law added a post highlighting Elaine’s spirited nature and the love she shared with her husband over the years they were together-:

“David’s mother passed away Sunday after a long battle with disease that took away her mind and her body. She was a spirited and engaging woman and the love of her husband’s life for over 65 years. If you have a few minutes, take the time to read the obituary Don wrote for his beloved Elaine.”

Elaine’s one-time neighbor also expressed their condolences, fondly recalling memories of their time together, and wrote-:

“My loving thoughts to Don, Donia, David and families. We were neighbors in Olympia Fields for many years and involved in so many activities with such fond memories. I know your hearts are broken but cherish all your fond memories of her….I know I will. Blessings to all. ❤️🙏 🌺”

Elaine passed away peacefully at home after a long illness.

Her cremation rights have been entrusted to Carlson Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home in Joliet, Illinois.
