On Sunday evening, October 6, 2024, Dodger Stadium in Elysian Park hosted the NL Division Series between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers, but the game was delayed after fans started throwing trash and balls at the players.

The stadium was a mess following the Padres’ 10-2 win over the Dodgers. Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar made a spectacular catch during NLDS Game 2, leading his team toward victory.

Reports also say that after Profar stole a homerun from Dodgers player Mookie Betts during the first inning, he made a mockery of Dodgers fans, which probably upset and disappointed them.

The disappointment became noticeable as they began throwing stuff, apparently aiming at Profar, as the spectators spotted baseball flying from the crowd toward him in the bottom of the seventh inning first.

The ESPN baseball reporter Alden Gonzalez also took to Twitter to state what happened to Profar inside Dodger Stadium. He tweeted, stating,

It looks as if two baseballs have been thrown in Jurickson Profar’s direction in left field. All the Padres are now huddling. Profar is HEATED.

But luckily, the baseball landed in the outfield grass, protecting Profar from possible injury. According to Fox5 reports, Profar chased the baseball that fans threw toward him, but the security officer got the ball first.

Things didn’t end there, as more stuff was coming out onto the field from the crowd, especially the surrounding of Padres’ right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr., one of the players who has been receiving several rude comments from Dodgers’ faithful fans since his debut in the major leagues.

Since the trash and stuff continuously made their way, officials stopped the game in the middle.

Paders manager Mike Shildt nestled with his team in shallow left, and soon after, Dodgers Stadium security headed into the field to protect players from fans’ attacks, removing them from the field.

Following that, the game ceased for nearly 15 minutes. As of now, it’s unclear whether the officials discovered the perpetrator who created the mess inside the stadium.

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • According to Fox5 reports, the crowd for the NL Division Series between Padres and Dodgers at Dodger Stadium was 54,119, the largest crowd of this season.
  • In the game, the San Diego Padres’ David Peralta and Jackson Merrill hit a 2-run homer individually.
