In 2019, the Phoenix Suns traded for him, and he scored a season-high 20 points during the NBA Bubble and helped lead the team to the 2021 NBA Finals.

The Brooklyn Nets signed Carter in 2021 but waived him early in 2022 as part of a roster adjustment.

He joined the Milwaukee Bucks in 2022, where he set a career-high with 36 points, and later signed a 3-year, $20 million contract with the Chicago Bulls in 2023.
