Following Jax’s tragic demise, his mother, Elizabeth, updated her Facebook profile picture and cover picture to one featuring him.

Reportedly, the heartbreaking accident occurred on early Sunday morning at around 2 a.m. in Chisago City, Minnesota, near Stacy Trail and Ivywood Trail.

Jax was riding in a 2014 Toyota Camry driven by a 14-year-old, with another 15-year-old in the car. Their car hit a 2000 Toyota 4Runner head-on, driven by a 17-year-old, Jon, with an 18-year-old passenger.

Unfortunately, Jax and the 4Runner driver, Jon, succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident.

Whereas the other teens were rushed to the hospital. One kid from the Camry was in really bad shape and got flown out by helicopter. The 14-year-old driver was also badly hurt.

The 18-year-old passenger went to the hospital by ambulance.

Police found alcohol at the crash site and are checking if it had anything to do with what happened.

Ashley Alvarez organized a Meal Train page to help his family. So far, 112 donors have given $6,935 toward a $15,000 goal.

Jax was a hockey player at the Chisago Lakes Hockey Association, and the association expressed its grief, writing:

Chisago Lakes Hockey Association would like to ask our community and friends from other communities to put their sticks out and leave a light on for one of our own, Jax Affolter, tonight.
Jax was a much loved son, brother, friend and teammate.
Today, we as a hockey family mourn the loss of Jax, and stand committed to being there to support his family. His brother is a current Wildcat in our Mite program.
