Mortensen, 71, said he made the decision to focus on “health, family and faith.”

Alexander Christian Mortensen, born on November 24, 1985, is a notable American football coach and former quarterback with a diverse career trajectory.

He initially showcased his football skills at both Arkansas and Samford during his college years.

Despite going undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft, Mortensen’s journey led him to sign with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent.

His brief stint in the NFL saw him take the field during the Hall of Fame Game against the Buffalo Bills on August 9.

During this game, he completed 1 of 2 passes but unfortunately threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Bills cornerback Reggie Corner. Just two days later, the Titans decided to waive Mortensen.

In 2012, Mortensen transitioned to a coaching role, joining New Mexico Highlands University as the Passing Game Coordinator.

He continued to build his coaching resume, spending 2013 as a coaching assistant with the St. Louis Rams.

His dedication to coaching led him to the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2014, where he took on the role of an offensive graduate assistant.

In 2018, Mortensen’s coaching journey led him to become the wide receivers coach for the Birmingham Iron, a team in the Alliance of American Football.

His coaching experience culminated on December 2, 2022, when Mortensen was appointed as the Offensive Coordinator of the UAB Blazers by Head Coach Trent Dilfer.
