Cleveland Cavaliers G-League Player Jaylon Tyson Has His Parents, John Tyson And Sandra Brown Support His Hoop Dreams Alongside His Brother’s Football Ambition

Cleveland Cavaliers G-League player Jaylon Tyson says his parents, John Tyson and Sandra Brown, are responsible for his strong work ethic. Tyson was the 20th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, and soon his brother might be part of a draft, but in a different sport.

Tyson, 22, has played 21 games for the high-flying Cavaliers this season.

The 6’6 shooting guard has averaged only 2 points and 0.7 assists and has regularly been assigned to the Cavaliers’ G-League team, Cleveland Charge.

In his latest outing with the Charge, the rookie scored 23 points against the Grand Rapid Gold, leading his team to a 113-103 victory.

Tyson also had 16 rebounds, a career-high. His father, John Tyson, proudly shared his son’s stats on his Instagram story.

Jaylon has received the same support from his parents throughout his basketball career, whether with the Charge or during his time with Texas, Texas Tech, and UC Berkeley.

In his senior season with the Bears, Tyson averaged 19.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists as he became a first-round pick in the NBA Draft.

Before the start of the 2024 NBA season, nobody expected the Cavaliers to be as good as they are right now.

Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, and Darius Garland are playing like All-Stars and are eyeing the Larry O’Brien trophy.

But the Cavs’ jump this year has dried Tyson’s chances to shine for the NBA side.

But patience is key, and the shooting guard’s promising performances in the G-League will certainly force Kenny Atkinson to call him back to the roster.

Jaylon Tyson Has His Parents, John Tyson And Sandra Brown, Rooting Him All The Way

In an interview, Jaylon Tyson said his parents, John Tyson and Sandra Brown’s work ethic trickled down to him and his brother, Jordyn Tyson.

Jaylon’s dad, John Tyson, didn’t want his two sons to behave like he did during his college years.

A highly talented football player out of high school, John Tyson broke his arm during his senior year.

A few colleges pulled out their scholarship offers, but Florida A&M trusted Tyson and kept their offer for him.

It was as if the football gods gave him a second chanc,e but John squandered it.

In a family interview with 247 Sports, John said after arriving on campus, he fell into the pitfalls of party life and began drinking alcohol.

He only lasted in Florida A&M for three years and couldn’t even complete his college degree.

John said when the time came to raise his two sons, he didn’t want them to follow in his footsteps.

After being unable to get a college degree or a job, John’s father kicked him out, and he decided to join the Air Force.

John and Sandra crossed paths for the first time when they worked in the Air Force.

After retiring in 1999, the couple settled in Texas, but the salary wasn’t good.

John only earned $23,000, but he kept working, and one day his luck shined.

His mother had coincidently met a Texas-based businessman, who offered John a professional opportunity and a salary that was quadruple what he earned.

John is available on Instagram but has shared only one post. The post happened to be a birthday post for his son, Jaylon.

Sandra is also available on Instagram but has kept her handle private.

A TikTok sports page interviewed Sandra when Jaylon played for Texas Tech.

Wearing a Texas Tech No.20 tee, the mom-of-two said her son is a better human than a basketball player.

Jaylon Tyson’s Parents Could Enter The Record Books If Their Youngest Son Makes It Big Like His Brother

Sandra Brown and John Tyson are on course to become one of the few parents to have their children play in the NFL and the NBA.

With their oldest son having accomplished it, they are now waiting for their younger son to weave his magic.

Jordyn Tyson shares a strong bond with his brother, which was reflected in their 247 interview.

A three-star prospect out of high school, Jordyn enrolled at Colorado State.

In his freshman year, Jordyn played nine games and had 22 receptions for 470 yards and five total touchdowns.

But a severe knee injury in 2023 forced Tyson to sit out most of the season.

The injury and Denio Sanders becoming Colorado’s next head football coach made Tyson find a new home.

As Jordyn nursed his injury, he transferred to Arizona State. The trust and belief shown by the coaches in Arizona made 2024 a special year for Jordyn.

The wide receiver made 75 catches for 1,101 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. This earned him the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year award.

Unfortunately, injury kept Jordyn out of the postseason. But seeing his performance in 2024, the wide receiver ought to make a noise in the 2026 NFL Draft.
