She was driving on Middle Road (Route 9) when she was struck by gunfire from a man named James Davis III.

Davis had earlier fatally shot his own mother while they were in a moving vehicle.

After their car came to a stop, he exited the vehicle armed with an AK-47 rifle and began firing at passing cars, one of which was driven by Kay Williams.

Her vehicle crashed into a house, and she was later pronounced dead at Central Maine Medical Center.

Moreover, Christine Smith was another victim, fatally shot by her son while driving.

Two other motorists, a 19-year-old man from Jay and a 35-year-old man from Hartford, were injured in the shooting. Both were hospitalized and are expected to recover.

As per the report, Davis, who was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis, tragically ended his own life after causing immense harm.

Katy Grondin, a superintendent of Katy Grondinschools, wrote:

There is no question that her death will have an impact on all of us, as Kay was a beloved member of the RSU 4 community. Our thoughts are with her family as they begin to process this loss.

Her untimely death in the Sabattus shooting has deeply affected her family, friends, and the broader community.

Social media platforms have been flooded with tributes to her kindness and dedication.

This case has sparked widespread discussion about mental health to prevent such tragedies in the future, particularly on social media.

One of the users with the name handle @Beth Alyse on Facebook said:

When will this country ever smarten up and do something about these senseless deaths?! Clearly the approach our country is taking to mental health is NOT working. How many innocent people have to die for no reason to make some changes? It’s sickening. It also makes me nervous to leave my home daily.

Additionally, many are reflecting on the importance of recognizing and addressing mental health crises before they escalate into tragedies.

Another user shared his heartbreak over this tragic case and said:

This situation is sad but also just another reminder of how serious of an issue mental illness and suicide is in this country today. Its also an unfortunate example of how things happen such as this and then people pay more attention to the illness smh .

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Katherine “Kay” Williams’s family, friends, and well-wishers.

Rest In Peace, Key!
