Coleman Hutzler Wikipedia- Hutzler began his coaching journey in 2006, and on December 6, it was announced his next stint would be at Mississippi State.

Hutzler was working for Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide before making this big move. In his two seasons at Alabama, Hutzler made a significant impact on the side. The special teams’ coordinator will now be working as the defensive coordinator for Mississippi State. 

Hutzler has previously coached at Florida, Ole Miss, and South Carolina. His move to Mississippi State will see him reuniting with head coach Jeff Lebby, with whom he worked at Ole Miss in 2021. 

Coleman Hutzler Wikipedia: His Playing And Coaching Career

The latest defensive coordinator of Mississippi State University, Coleman Hutzler, is native to Las Vegas. He graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont and played as a linebacker from 2002-05. 

Hutzler began his coaching career at the University of San Diego and worked as a defensive assistant in 2006. He then became recruiting assistant for Stanford in 2007 and worked for the Cardinal from 2008-09.

In 2012, Hutzler worked for New Mexico as their outside linebackers coach and worked there until 2013 before returning to Florida in 2014. He previously worked with Florida in 2010-11 as an assistant linebacker and special teams coordinator. 

Coleman returned in the 2014 season in the same position and helped the side to the second-best punt return average in the SEC. He was recruited by Boston College in 2015 and was part of the strongest defensive team in the nation.

One year later, he moved to the University of South Carolina and worked there for four seasons. In his last season with South Carolina, Hutzler’s special team ranked in the top 20 nationally in net punting and punt return average. 

During his time at South Carolina, Hutzler was nominated for the Broyles Award. After bidding goodbye to South Carolina, Hutzler spent one season with Texas. At Texas, his defense ranked in the top 9 in the FBS.

In 2021, Coleman joined Ole Miss as the special teams coordinator and a year later, joined Alabama. In his first season with Alabama, Hutzler helped the Crimson Tide rank 16th nationally in sacks per game.

And in the 2023 season, he made Crimson Tide one of the best special team units in the country. They ranked sixth nationally in yards per punt and 15th in field goal. 

Coleman Hutzler Family: Wife And Two Kids 

Coleman Hutzler is married to Cobey Hutzler (nee Shoji), and the couple is parents to two kids. Micah and Leila are the couple of kids of the sporty husband-wife duo. 

Cobey Hutzler graduated from the University of Michigan in 2001 with a sports management and communications degree. She played volleyball at UNLV and Michigan as a defensive specialist/setter.

She previously coached Rebel Volleyball Club in Las Vegas, Punahou School in Honolulu, and Triangle Volleyball Club in North Carolina. Cobey joined Stanford as the Director of Volleyball Operations, and in 2013, she completed her sixth year at Stanford.

Many might not know, but Coleman’s father-in-law, Dave Shoji, was previously the head coach of the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Women’s Volleyball team. 

He served in that position from 1975 to 2017 and bowed out from his role as the winningest coach in Division I women’s volleyball history with 1,107 wins. Under his leadership, Rainbow won four national titles. 

Cobey and Coleman tied the knot on July 17, 2010, and two years their son, Micah, came along. In 2014, Cobey gave birth to their second child, Leila. Hutzler has shared a few family photos on his Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) pages.
