Coach Hurtado was more than just a coach.

He was a wonderful man who defined himself through his unwavering character, natural kindness, and deep respect for everyone he encountered.

He lived his life shaping not only athletes but the character of the young people he mentored.

His legacy is one of integrity and compassion, and generations of students, players, and colleagues will well remember him.

Coach Hurtado now joins his fellow coach and friend, Ted Abbott, a popular and longtime figure who spent more than four decades coaching football and baseball at College Park.

Together, they represented a golden era of mentorship and dedication to the school.

Abbott had back-to-back unbeaten football teams at College Park and was the first baseball coach at Northgate, where the field is named in his honor. He was inducted into the College Park Hall of Fame in February, an event that was attended by 300 to 400 of his former players.
