Reportedly, the tragic accident happened just after 5 a.m. near mile marker 8, only a few miles north of the North Carolina line.
The roads were slick from wintry weather that had moved into the area overnight. Police say a pickup truck was going north in the left lane when it slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer. The truck then slid off the road and ended up in the median.
Right after that, Dylan was driving his 2020 Tesla in the left lane. He started to move over to the right lane, hit a second tractor-trailer, then bounced back into the left lane and crashed into the first tractor-trailer.
Firefighters had to cut him out of the car, but sadly, he succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident despite wearing his seatbelt.
A few other people were hurt and taken to nearby hospitals. However, none of the injuries were life-threatening.
