A Columbus City Schools teacher, Jared Jackson, died in a crash on February 14, 2025. Jackson was only 32 years old, and the accident occurred north of Cemetery Road.
Jared Jackson was a physical education teacher at Winterset Elementary School and Lincoln Park Elementary School.
The police reports state that Jackson, driving a 2015 Chevy Cruze, struck a Honda CRV.
The CRV was sent flying into a wall and flipped over. Jackson’s car continued off the road before hitting a tree and stopping.
Jackson was pronounced dead on arrival, and the CRV driver was transported to Ohio Health Riverside Methodist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
WSYX ABC6 interviewed Aaron Jackson, Jared’s only brother, on February 19, 2025. Aaron said,
I didn’t grow up without having him in my life. Now we have to figure out how to do life without him. It’s going to be hard, but Jared wouldn’t want us to stop.

One of Jared’s cousins, a pastor at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, shared a condolence post for the physical education teacher. They wrote:
“We are saddened to share the passing of Pastor Kris’s cousin, Jared Jackson. Jared was a teacher, a coach, a mentor, and a light in the community for many young men.
Mt. Nebo family, I am asking you to remember Pastor Kris and the entire family in prayer this evening and in the days ahead as they navigate this tragic loss.”
Jackson’s cousin, Kris Jackson, also had a few words to share on his cousin’s untimely death. Kris wrote:
“Rest well, Jared! I am lost and frustrated. Please uplift my Uncle Eric, Aunt Olivia, my cousins Aaron and Erica, my grandmother, my mom, and my sister Karol or Kourtney in prayer as well as his students!!
My cousin was only 32 years old and a Columbus City School Educator and Coach!“
Jared’s other cousin, William Blake, also shared an emotional post for him. In its comment section, one user recalled a fond memory of the late teacher.
Shaye Odom wrote, “Sending prayers to the Family. Jared coached my grandson a couple of years ago at Oakland Park Elementary. He taught him the fundamentals of basketball. He coached them to a championship.
He also followed him when he played little league football and supported him in his AAU basketball. He was a great mentor and will be deeply missed.”

The young physical education teacher, Jared Jackson, grew up playing sports in suburban Cleveland.
Jared graduated from Bowling Green State University and moved to Columbus seven years ago.
He loved playing basketball as a high school student, and this year, he accepted the role of an assistant basketball coach at Briggs High School.
WSYX ABC76 also interviewed Kris, who shared how passionate Jared was about his job.
Kris also said he was thankful that he spent more time with Jared after the former moved to Columbus. Kris said:
He was very passionate about what he did. He was very passionate about working with kids. And I think in that way he not only got that from his mom and dad but that’s the heart of our family. Education is heart of our family.

He continued, “Jared was questioning if he was being impactful and he was being more impactful than he could ever imagine.”
