Cooper Flagg Inherited His Parents’ Athleticism, as Both His Mother, Kelly, and His Father, Ralph, Were College Athletes

This article was last updated by on

Cooper Flagg’s parents were college athletes, with Kelly excelling as a guard-forward for the Maine Black Bears women’s basketball team and Ralph also participating in college sports.

American college basketball player Cooper Flagg hails from Newport, Maine, U.S.

Flagg plays for the Duke Blue Devils of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

After his debut during Duke’s season opener against Maine on November 4, 2024, he scored 18 points with seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals in a 96-62 win.

Cooper Flagg’s Father, Ralph Flagg, Is Also A Former Basketball Player At Eastern Maine Community College!

Kelly and Ralph Flagg are the proud parents of the collegiate basketball star Cooper Flagg.

Besides showering Cooper with all the love and support, his parents have blessed him with extraordinary athletic gifts.

Basketball is in his blood, as his mother and father were successful collegiate players.

Cooper’s mother, Kelly Flagg, is a former college basketball player at the University of Maine.

She devoted herself to playing for the university’s basketball team from 1995-1999. Gradually, she became the captain of the team during her senior year.

Moreover, her love for basketball developed from a young age, as she had a high school score of 1,200.

She demonstrated exceptional basketball skills, earning four consecutive American East titles.

Kelly’s leadership as the team captain in the 1998-99 season led to the team’s appearance in the NCAA tournament for all four years.

Furthermore, that season marked the team’s first and only NCAA tournament victory.

With such an impressive sports background, she has been an excellent mentor for her son, Cooper.

One instance of Kelly teaching her son a valuable lesson was when she tweeted about how she disapproved of Cooper’s intense look toward an opponent during a match.

Likewise, Cooper’s father, Ralph Flagg, is also a former basketball player at Eastern Maine Community College. He has worked at Trident Controls.

However, it’s not just Copper who inherited his parents’ athleticism: his fraternal twin brother, Ace, is also athletically gifted.

Ace was a teammate at Nokomis, transferred to Montverde, and has committed to play at Maine beginning in 2025-26.

Furthermore, Cooper’s older brother, Hunter, is also a former Nokomis basketball player.

Therefore, the Flagg brothers’ zeal for basketball highlights how much of an inspiration their parents, Kelly and Ralph, are.

Cooper’s remarkable aptitude, precocious achievements, and fierce self-assurance indicate how his parents nurtured him.
